The first song that was recorded for the album Liquid Courage was "The Adventures of Larry and Tina". At the time, Wax and EOM had no plans of making an album together. They just recorded the song and when all was said and done they both agreed that they liked it. Wax liked it so much he started playing an "unplugged version" of it at his shows. This peformance of the song is from Cafe Muse in Hollywood, CA on April 12th, 2008. The song had just been written and you can tell by the introductory banter that Wax and EOM were not very well acquainted yet. Wax refers to EOM as "this dude". Wax is such an arrogant piece of shit!

It might be good to mention here how Wax and EOM "met". Basically, EOM was sitting around surfing the internet one night and he happened to stumble upon a video of some dude rapping in his car. EOM thought the dude sounded pretty good and he noticed that there was also a large amount of views on the video. This is the video:

He sent the "driving rapper" dude a beat and MC Safety Belt sent him back a message saying the beat was hot....but he wanted to make an album using his own beats (Wax also makes beats....usually more on the "cheese funk synth" tip as compared to EOM's "soulful cool sample" style). Anyway, EOM wasn't discouraged. After crying for several hours and contemplating suicide due to Wax's rejection...he got a second wind! He spent some time constructing a beat he thought Wax would sound nice on top of and sent that beat to him. Wax listened to it and thought it was beautiful. Wax immediately started humming a melody for the chorus then wrote a song over it: an odd story of an older recently-divorced guy falling in love with a younger stripper. Both Wax and EOM thought the story went really well with the music. EOM suggested that maybe they do some other stuff together and Wax agreed without hesitiation, thinking that EOM would send him another beat and maybe they would record another song. EOM then proceeded to send Wax approximately 35 beats. A little overwhelmed at first, Wax started listening to these beats one by one. By the time he was finished he realized that he couldn't just pick one so he sent EOM a myspace message asking him if he was down to do an album together. EOM agreed and they started working on the album. They assumed they would do 8 songs or so and they would finish pretty quickly.
At this point these two dudes had never communicated with each other using anything other than myspace messages. Wax found that interesting so he suggested the tentative album title "For all I know, he's an Asshole"....a play on the fact that they had never even talked on the phone before. They agreed on the title and got to work. One of the first songs Wax ended up writing and recording was "Sunday in the City" which is featured on this page. From there Wax just kept writing and writing and EOM kept sending Wax more and more beats. By the time the album was done (shit it's not even fully completed as this is being written) there were 17 tracks. At that point it seemed dumb to use the aforementioned title since the album represented more than just the fact that Wax and EOM had never met. EOM suggested the title "Liquid Courage" based on a quote he liked from the movie Dark Knight. Wax was amazed at how well that title fit in with the subject matter of the album and they agreed on that title.
Some people say that the great thing about EOM's production style is his sense of "musicality". This makes it so alot of the songs on the album Liquid Courage could easily be translated into performances by acoustic musicians, rock bands, or even orchestras. This works well since Wax often performs as a solo acoustic act. Wax and EOM hope that this album takes them to the point where they can start doing some live shows...possibly with a band. It's difficult with them residing on opposite sides of the country, but who knows what can happen....THIS IS AMERICA GOD DAMNIT!!!
Update: As of 2012, Wax & EOM are now roommates with Wax writin' 'n' recordin' a lot and EOM just makin' mad beats.
Sunday In the City
Wax and EOM Lyrics

Sunday in the city
Sunday in Baltimore city
And my B-More girl looks all the more pretty
With her shorts on, And her shades in hand
And every bar gots sports on, ravens fans
Pack the street, First game of the season
So let's take a long walk like Jill Scott
There's this chill spot on this hill top where we'll stop
Spark something up, have a laugh
We got, two straws and a half n half
And I'll be honest girl, I ain't got much money
But I'll spend every dime to take you out to lunch honey
Your picking, we can score chick and a half steak
This west coast living got me missing them crab cakes
So let's go, start drinking yo
And maybe later we can catch the grilled lincoln show…
Please Be Cautious… Of Abraham Lincoln's feet and top hat, As you enter Bill and Ted's excellent adventure telephone Booth…
Sunday in the city, Sounds good to me
Sunday in the city
It's just another day yo, down in sunny day go
Even though my money stay low
I still manage, to find a tall smooth beer
I swear all the hottest women in the world all move here
I can't even drive down garnet
Without damn near causing a car wreck
These girls are ridiculous
I think when axel rose wrote the lyrics to paradise city he pictured this
It's just a, sunday on the porch my crew's chill in' out
Listening to Zap, playing horse shoes grilling out
Thinking it can't get no better than this but it's bitter sweet as I reminisce…
Cuz every time I think of that city, I think of my man Fresh
And wish he was still with me on the stoop
Watching the women walk through
I wish he was still living to talk to…. Damn
Be cautious… Joan of Ark and Ghengis Khan can be quite unruly as you enter Bill and Ted's excellent adventure telephone Booth…
Sunday in the city, Sounds good to me
Sunday in the city
Yo, and these days I'm in hollywood
I don't go out much on sundays although I probably should
I just recover from the previous night
Put in the EOM beat CD and write
I'm trying to grind harder, and focus on rapping
Enough bullshitting and try make something happen
I sit back on reflect on what I'm doing
When I walk around the city I can smell something brewing
But it fleets, I dunno is it still there?
Is there magic within the smog filled air?
And I'mma stay till I taste it
I'm good at one thing no way will I waste it
I'm faced with a choice from the voice of the Hollywood hills
Asking me 'Wax, do you got skill?'
I'm like - 'Yeah'
It says - 'let's hear it'
Sunday wondering pondering the next lyric…
The song "Sunday in the City" by Wax and EOM is a laid back, nostalgic tribute to the simple pleasures of spending a lazy Sunday in the city. It's a love letter to city life and the memories that are created there. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the city, from Baltimore to Hollywood, and the different experiences and emotions associated with each.
The first verse of the song talks about Baltimore, with its sports bars and Ravens fans gathering to watch the first game of the season. The singer takes a long walk with his girl, finding a chill spot on a hilltop to hang out and spark something up. The verse is a reminder that it's the simple things in life that bring the most joy, like spending time with loved ones and enjoying the beauty of nature. The second verse talks about San Diego, where the singer has moved to. Despite not having much money, he's still able to find a tall smooth beer and enjoy the company of some of the most beautiful women in the world. The verse is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, even in the face of financial hardship.
The last verse of the song takes place in Hollywood, where the singer reflects on his life and his career as a rapper. He's trying to focus on his music and make something happen, but he's also aware of the magic that can be found in the smog-filled air of the city. The verse is about passion and determination, and the belief that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
Overall, "Sunday in the City" is a song about the beauty of city life and the memories that it can create. It's a laid back, nostalgic tribute to the simple pleasures of life, and an encouragement to embrace each moment as it comes.
