Love You Too Much

Yeah
I stopped sending flowers to your apartment
You said you weren't around much anymore, yeah
I stopped dropping by without an appointment
'Cause I heard laughter coming through your door
Before you close your eyes to sleep, yeah
I made a vow that I would drop by some times
But that's a promise I can't keep
'Cause I love you too much to ever start likin' you
Let's leave the story here to end, no
I love you too much to ever start likin' you
So don't expect me to be your friend, no
You act so happy when I see you, girl
You smile and take my hand
Introduce me to your latest lover, yeah
That's when the world starts crashing in
'Cause I love you too much to ever start likin' you
Let's leave the story here to end, yeah
I love you too much to ever start likin' you
So don't expect me to be your friend, no, no, no
Well
Oh, baby
Oh
I stopped sending flowers to your apartment
You said you weren't around much anymore, no
I stopped dropping by without an appointment
'Cause I heard laughter from your door
Sometimes late at night you still call me
Just before you close your eyes to sleep, yeah
I made a vow that I would drop by some times
But baby, that's a promise I can't keep
'Cause I love you too much to ever start likin' you
So let's leave the story here to end, yeah
'Cause I love you too much to ever start likin' you
So don't expect me to be your friend, no
I love you too much to ever start likin' you
So leave the story here to end, no
I love you too much to ever start likin' you
The lyrics to Wayne Wade's song Love You Too Much tell the story of a man who is still deeply in love with his ex-girlfriend, but knows that he can never be just friends with her because his feelings run too deep. He used to send her flowers, drop by unannounced, and make promises to see her, but he slowly pulled away when he discovered that she had moved on with someone else. Despite this, she still reaches out to him from time to time, perhaps due to lingering feelings or a need for emotional support. But the singer knows that he can't give her what she wants - anything less than the all-encompassing love he feels for her - and so he must leave the story unfinished.
The song's lyrics are raw and emotional, expressing the pain of unrequited love and the struggle to move on from an ex-partner. The singer's love is all-encompassing and consuming, to the point where he cannot fathom being just friends with his former lover. The repetition of the line "I love you too much to ever start likin' you" underscores the depth of his feelings and the futility of trying to be platonic friends.
Overall, Love You Too Much is a poignant ballad about the difficulty of letting go of a great love. It captures the intensity of feeling that comes with heartbreak and reminds listeners that sometimes, love just isn't enough.
