What made me think that I could live without her who do I think I am
What made me think that she couldn't forget me who do I think I am
Why did I tell myself I was her one and only
I should have realized and end up alone and lonely
What made me think that she couldn't find another who do I think I am
[ piano ]
Why did I tell myself...
Webb Pierce's song "Who Do You Think I Am" tells the story of a man who cannot understand why his relationship with his partner ended. He questions himself about why he thought he could live without her, why he thought she couldn't forget him, and why he assumed he was her one and only. He then regrets not realizing that she could easily find another partner, and ends up feeling lonely and isolated. The song explores the themes of love, loss, and self-reflection.
The lyrics of the song are very introspective and show a deep awareness of one's own faults and weaknesses. The singer is not blaming his partner for leaving him but instead, he is questioning his own actions and attitudes. The song's melancholic melody adds to the reflective and nostalgic tone of the lyrics. The piano accompaniment adds to the somber mood and reinforces the feeling of loss and melancholy.

+Mitch Barker Webb was hit and miss live. I've heard some great ones and a lot of weak ones and he couldn't lip sync at all.
I listened to some cuts of a live armed forces show from the early 60's where he was AMAZING and another one from the same era were i think he was smashed and he stank.
I L O V E Kitty, my favorite Kitty is 59' - 69' basically the same as you.
You know, the years were it's nearly impossible to find pristine copies of the songs just like it is for Webb in those years.
By the way, if you have a CLEAN copy of Kitty's album cut True and Lasting Kind from her Dec / 1968 album CREAM OF COUNTRY HITS Decca DL-75067 please post it.
My post has a big pop in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzXln7GMd30 I love that thing for some reason.
~~~ " I watched one of him in the 70's and it was amazing though but he was wearing sun glasses all the way through it lol " ~~~~ ....
Well, i have no firm numbers, but E.T. never really made huge money. I think he was worth about half a million or less when he died.
E.T.'s income was about 90% road dates and 10% Ernest Tubb Record Shops give or take................
The record shops didn't make much and E.T. NEVER charged enough for his road dates which used to drive Cal Smith crazy. Cal said that when he went solo and hit, he was charging more than Ernest and TOLD Ernest he should raise his rate but Ernest was afraid it would hurt the fans so he would not do it.
E.T. LOVED his fans and had an integrity about him that was truly admirable..
Webb was a HUGE country star from 51' - 63',,,,,, he was the undisputed #1 in country music and made BIG money on the road,,, all the while he was investing his money,, buying radio stations,,, music publishing companies,,, and real estate,, so by the late 60's AND when Webb died, he was a multimillionaire.
When Webb stopped having big hits in the early 60's he was really sick of the road anyway and it was obvious that his style didn't fit with the Nashville Sound and he could not do the Ray Price, Eddy Arnold country pop thing so he concentrated on his businesses with a few concert dates here and there.
It was, according to Webb, ALWAYS his plan because he knew the singing career wouldn't last forever and he WAS DAMN SURE NOT gonna wind up broke and owing the IRS like so many did.
Most of Webb's live shows he did from 1969 -1975 he did just to help out his daughter Debbie, girl singer Nancy Dee, and his buddy's like Max Powell and Rusty Adams.
He tried to assist them to get them a career going, but none of them really had what it takes,,, they were all talented, Max Powell was an excellent song writer and so was Rusty Adams to a lesser extent,,, just not star material.
P.S.
Did you ever read Ernest Tubb: The Texas Troubadour By Ronnie Pugh?
It a great read for E.T. fans..
I love this song since I first heard it a few days ago, I think it's my favorite for now. I guess the way you find "other" songs you might like is to listen to whole albums. When you find more songs you like that were not big hits you can't believe they were never played on any of the so called "classic" country stations/shows/internet radio/satilite radio, etc. To me it sounds like it should have been as big of a hit as "Slowly" or "More and more".
I'm the same way, it seems like I prefer unknown album cuts and B sides over the "hits" 90% of the time.
I'm diggin' this old school country music. Sam Hunt's "Hard to Forget" brought this artist to my attention. 🎶
