Wedding Present Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Oh have you lost your love of life? Too much apple pie
And now Harry's walked away with Johnny's wife
You've got to pick some people up
You've got to let some people go
But if Lee's name does come up
Oh well I really want to know
Because everybody loves a TV show
Lost your love of life? Too much apple pie
Oh have you lost your love of life? Too much apple pie
And now Harry's walked away with Johnny's wife
You've got to pick some people up
You've got to let some people go
But if Lee's name does come up
Oh well I really want to know
Because everybody loves a TV show
Lost your love of life? Too much apple pie
Oh have you lost your love of life? Too much apple pie
And now Harry's walked away with Johnny's wife
The lyrics to Wedding Present’s song “Kennedy” tell a story of lost love, betrayal, and the inevitable passing of time. The line “lost your love of life? Too much apple pie” suggests that the singer has become content and complacent in his or her life, possibly due to excess comfort or familiarity. The following line, “and now Harry’s walked away with Johnny’s wife,” reveals a dramatic and unexpected turn of events – the singer’s friend has betrayed him by leaving his wife for another woman.
The subsequent lines “you've got to pick some people up, you've got to let some people go” convey the idea that life is full of gains and losses, and that one must accept and adapt to change in order to move forward. However, the line “but if Lee's name does come up, oh well I really want to know, because everybody loves a TV show” suggests that despite the weight of the situation, life goes on and people will still find pleasure in simple pleasures like watching TV.
Overall, “Kennedy” seems to speak to the universal experience of facing and coping with loss and betrayal, and the need for acceptance and resilience in order to carry on.

The Wedding Present are the kind of band that will smash their guitars on stage, then sweep up afterwards themselves.

One of my favourite songs back then, and still is now. Those chords....loud & aggressive, yet beautifully melodic. The playing is tighter than a gnats chuff.
