Don't Get 2 Close
Ween Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't quiver little boy, your daddy's with you now
It won't be long anyhow
It's just around the corner
The destiny that I embrace with you

Don't get too close to my fantasy
Don't be afraid to clutch the hand of your creator
Stare into the lion's eyes and if you taste the candy
You'll get to the surprise

Stay calm little dreamer and drift off into dreams
The gentle kiss of night is better than it seems
It's just around the corner
Close your eyes and soon you'll be with me

Don't get too close to my fantasy
Don't be afraid to clutch the hand of your creator
Stare into the lion's eyes and if you taste the candy
You'll get to the surprise

You'll get to the surprise
You'll get to the surprise

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ween's song "Don't Get 2 Close (2 My Fantasy)" are perhaps intentionally ambiguous and open to interpretation. One possible reading is that the song is about a father figure comforting and guiding a child through the uncertainties of life. The lines "Don't quiver little boy, your daddy's with you now / It won't be long anyhow / It's just around the corner" suggest that the child may be afraid or uncertain about what lies ahead, but the father is there to reassure him that everything will be okay.

The next stanza, "Don't get too close to my fantasy / Don't be afraid to clutch the hand of your creator / Stare into the lion's eyes and if you taste the candy / You'll get to the surprise," is more difficult to parse. It may be a warning not to become too enamored of a particular vision of the future or an idealized version of the world, as this could blind us to the real challenges and dangers around us. It could also be seen as a call to embrace the unknown and take risks, even in the face of potential danger, as the "surprise" that awaits may be worth it.

The final stanza, "Stay calm little dreamer and drift off into dreams / The gentle kiss of night is better than it seems / It's just around the corner / Close your eyes and soon you'll be with me," again suggests a comforting presence guiding the child through life's uncertainties. The "gentle kiss of night" may be a metaphor for death or sleep, and the idea of being "with" the father figure may suggest a reunion in the afterlife or a metaphorical joining of forces.

Overall, the song can be seen as a meditation on the uncertainties and risks of life, the importance of taking comfort in those we trust, and the need to embrace the unknown and take risks in pursuit of our dreams.

Over the years, I have gravitated towards different Ween songs as my favorites (The Grobe, Back to Basom, Birthday Boy, Chocolate Town, Nan, Baby Bitch, Transdermal Celebration, Israel) but I always seem to gravitate back towards this one.

@t.4667

Could've ended the record here but continue with a song named "poop ship destroyer" as the finale

Ween in a nutshell

@tahirmukic5460

They could've ended The Pod with Pork Roll Egg and Cheese but instead did that with The Stallion Pt. 2 for shits and giggles in the same manner.
But if you ask me,the closing tracks on all the other Ween albums were good choices.

@peppermillers8361

thought so with Chocolate and Cheese too.
