...During the "I'm Dancing in the Show..." reprise: Years later, a young child stumbles upon the mollusk shell while walking along the beach. He picks it up and walks away. Just like the album/story also began.

From Ween FB: I got a call a long time ago from a marine biologist that said he wanted to start a cartoon inspired by Ween's album "The Mollusk." His name was Steve Hillenburg and he his idea was to create a Bugs Bunny type cartoon on the bottom of the ocean floor. Ween had been on tour for a long year and we ended up recording and writing the song in one night at Greg Frey's studio. It was to teach kids how too tie their shoes and we wrote it really fast and mailed it back on X-mas eve and for once they said "don't change anything about its, it's perfect." It remains one of our proudest legacies and we went on to do a lot of work together with SpongeBob, and the show went on to be the best cartoon of 2 generations. So this is for you Steve. The show wasn't even on the air at the time mind you. - Mickey

I once described Adventure Time, a body of work comparable to the discography of Ween in so many ways (And one which Gene Ween himself has professed deep admiration for), as "A path traced through infinity". Both that cartoon and this rock n' roll band are just brilliant, just crazy, just BRAVE enough to forsake any well-trod creative path and wander amidst the universe of endless possibility, rattling off sage wisdom and crass jokes in equal measure along the way, and celebrating all of existence without discrimination. At first brush both seem completely unhinged, lacking any kind of unifying vision or perspective, but once you wade deep enough into their waters you realize you are struggling to take in a vision so far-reaching in its scope and profundity that it cannot even be articulated; only, like all other forms of enlightenment, experienced. And once that realization sinks in, the shape of Ween's discography, and the shape of Adventure Time's story, appear in the mind's eye as finite lines sketched amidst an unending canvas of time and space, which though they cannot even dream of encompassing it, nonetheless capture the IDEA of embracing all its infinitude at once, through the sheer beauty of the arc they trace through it. Though we can never see the infinite, this art makes us see that there IS an infinite, all around us, because they are paths traced through a landscape which could only be infinity.

Theory:This album was made centuries ago back in the pirate years and the electronic device recorded was there in every moment of the album recording the sounds and saving them and when the album finishes the device is thrown somewhere in the sand slightly broken

Reminds me of my times in middle school, growing up with all my classmates through the years and eventually becoming the adults we are today. Additionally, the story is about One of those classmates being a childhood crush/friend which became a relationship, only to fall apart. (I’ve loved you so long, since you were a child.)

This causes the man to look back on all those years, eventually leaving with the “three other men” in ween on a ship. The reprise (the ending) signifies the man choosing to go overboard in order to drown and commit suicide. “For I’m not the man I choose to be, now I’m of them” one of them being dead. The instrumental at the end is him drowning.

Obviously the song isn’t about this. Music is open for interpretation and this is the story I created from this art

I feel like this songs not about a pirates wife or lover leaving but instead maybe the song is from the point of view of a pirate that raised a young girl. She is now old and wants to adventure away from her father. In total tho it dosent just have to be pirates this is about the effects of loss on a person and how not only he or she feels in the long run but how the person leaving is. My interpretation is that a pirate raised (kidnapped?) a young girl. When she became old enough for him to "be" with, she rejects him and tells him that she loves another man, and actually never loved him at all. He reacts by killing her lover and possibly, her. He then sits back in shame and regret while drinking his rum. A pirate's life!

I think it's about some sea traveller who in his youth lived in an illusionary world where he thought the love of his life loved him back - only for her to run away with the pirates. Some time later he finds the crew who stole her and kills them all, along with the girl that betrayed him. He becomes so brokenhearted and tired of life, wasting his days drinking rum all day and becoming a savage, like the pirates who stole his love. That's why the last line is "now I'm one of them".

Gener (and Deaner) have stated that he doesn't put too much thought into his lyrics. Personally I find it hard to believe, but as a writer I notice common themes tend to creep up without much consideration, so that may be a part of it. But there is such a rich narrative to their music, and a certain mysterious humor that really wants you to ask what else is going on. I think their humility about their songwriting is just a tenet of their genius. A genius usually doesn't brag or give themselves enough credit. I think it spoils a bit of the magic if the artist was to delineate every song. Some musicians do, but that's the magic of Ween, they leave you wondering and wanting more but simultaneously scratching that itch and getting you off like no other music does.

After listening to the whole album I'd like to think about the story being about a young, arrogant pirate doing what typical pirates do steal, use drugs and Take women as brides. Of course he believes women are just objects until he falls in love and impregnates one. While giving birth the mother dies and he has to take care of his newborn baby girl bringing us to "It gonna be (Alright)". as life goes on he uses drugs to cope with the loss of his wife and the stress of a child. He doesn't want anyone to hurt his daughter and wants to protect her. She eventually wants to leave.. and he is left alone and old to sail the seas forever.
