Rivers Cuomo's story behind "Beverly Hills": "I was at the opening of the new Hollywood Bowl and I flipped through the program and I saw a picture of Wilson Phillips. And for some reason I just thought how nice it would be to marry, like, an 'established' celebrity and live in Beverly Hills and be part of that world. And it was a totally sincere desire. And then I wrote that song, Beverly Hills. For some reason, by the time it came out—and the video came out—it got twisted around into something that seemed sarcastic. But originally it wasn't meant to be sarcastic at all."
Cuomo stated that "Beverly Hills" and the solo, third verse, and last chorus of "Falling for You" (from Pinkerton) are his proudest musical achievements: "It's incredibly fun: a great beat, guitar riffs, catchy vocal style. Besides that, I think the lyrics are incredible in a very understated way. I might as well enjoy my life and watch the stars play. I love it! With this one song we were able to transcend our little niche and connect with all kinds of people, young and old, from all kinds of backgrounds."

My automobile is a piece of crap
My fashion sense is a little whack
And my friends are just as screwy as me
I didn't go to boarding schools
Preppie girls never looked at me
Why should they?
Beverly Hills, that's where I want to be
Livin' in Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills, rolling like a celebrity
Livin' in Beverly Hills
Look at all those movie stars
They're all so beautiful and clean
When the housemaids scrub the floors
They get the spaces in between
I want to live a life like that
I want to be just like a king
Take my picture by the pool
'Cause I'm the next big thing
Beverly Hills, that's where I want to be
Livin' in Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills, rolling like a celebrity
Livin' in Beverly Hills
The truth is I don't stand a chance
It's something that you're born into
And I just don't belong
No I don't, I'm just a no-class beat down fool
And I will always be that way
I might as well enjoy my life
And watch the stars play
Beverly Hills, that's where I want to be
Livin' in Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills , rolling like a celebrity
Livin' in Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills
Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills, livin' in Beverly Hills
The song "Beverly Hills" by Weezer is about a person who feels inadequate and out of place in their current life, and fantasizes about being part of the rich and famous crowd in Beverly Hills. The opening lines of the song sets the tone of the singer's dissatisfaction with where they come from, from their car to their fashion sense. The singer's self-worth and social standing is reflected in the way they feel preppie girls don't even look at them. They're feeling insignificant and invisible, as they don't have the money and prestige that would make them stand out.
The chorus of the song repeats the desire to be in Beverly Hills and live like a celebrity. The second verse talks about the beauty of the movie stars there and the luxury lifestyle they lead. But the singer acknowledges the fact that they don't belong there, that it's not something they can simply acquire or achieve. In the final lines of the song, the singer accepts their position as a "no-class beat down fool" and decides to enjoy their life regardless.
Overall, "Beverly Hills" can be seen as a commentary on the American Dream and the fascination with celebrity culture. The song highlights the obsession with wealth and status, and the feeling of inadequacy that comes with not having those things. At the same time, it also suggests that true happiness can be found in accepting yourself and enjoying what you have.
