Beginning of the End
Weezer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Knocking on my door they tell me it's time to go on
Last check in the mirror to see if anything's wrong
The writing's up on the wall
A warning shot to them all

My head is spinning, it's the beginning of the end
The people freak out when I walk out there, so scared
My head is spinning, it's the beginning of the end
The people freak out when I walk out there, so scared

Nostradamus predicted a bomb would drop
And all our guitars will be humming in old pawn shops
Watch us brush off the dust, in heavy metal we trust
Then kick back and read The Sunday Times

My head is spinning, it's the beginning of the end
The people freak out when I walk out there, so scared

Fifteen hundred thousand years
Wouldn't be enough to dry these tears
I'll still be here hanging on, and on, and on
Things will never be the same
Save the pieces of your brain

My head is spinning, it's the beginning of the end
The people freak out when I walk out there, so scared

My head is spinning, it's the beginning of the end
The people freak out when I walk out there, so scared

Overall Meaning

In "Beginning of the End," Weezer reflects on the pressures and anxieties of fame and the uncertain future of their music career. The lyrics convey a sense of impending doom and the band's struggle to navigate through the chaos and expectations.

The song begins with the singer being informed that it's time to go on stage, possibly for a live performance. Before stepping out, they check themselves in the mirror, hoping that everything looks okay. This could symbolize the band's self-doubt and concern about their appearance and performance.

As they walk out, they notice that the writing is on the wall, suggesting that there are signs indicating a problematic future ahead. The "warning shot" mentioned implies that there are challenges and obstacles waiting for them. The line "A warning shot to them all" suggests that the band is aware of the pressures and expectations placed upon them by the industry and their fans.

The chorus states that the beginning of the end is causing the singer's head to spin. The fear and anxiety from the people is palpable as they walk out on stage. This could reflect the band's experience of being in the spotlight and the pressure to meet the expectations of their audience.

The lyrics then reference Nostradamus, a historical figure known for his prophecies. The prediction of a bomb dropping and guitars collecting dust in pawn shops speaks to the idea that the music industry may become obsolete or suffer significant changes in the future. Despite this, the band suggests that they will continue to hold onto their love for heavy metal music, refusing to let it fade away.

Towards the end of the song, the lyrics imply a sense of perseverance. The reference to "fifteen hundred thousand years" indicates an immeasurable amount of time, emphasizing that the band's dedication and passion will endure. Though things may never be the same, they encourage listeners to save the pieces of their brain, symbolizing the importance of preserving their love for music in an uncertain landscape.

Overall, "Beginning of the End" explores the band's anxieties about their future in the music industry and their determination to persevere despite the challenges they may face.

@bonhamclackey574

I think Bill and Ted stopped off in 2008 and picked up Weezer. With 2020 being such a mess, we really need their help. Wyld Stallyns and 2008 Weezer hold the keys to our continued existence. They are here to help us remember how to be excellent to each other. Of course having an 8 member double Weezer may pose dangers we're not ready to face, but at the same time will make some most excellent music.
