Endless Bummer
Weezer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey

I just want this summer to end
What's the point of trying to pretend?
She told me to follow the rules
Not all nineteen year olds are cool
I'm all alone at night
Dreamin' about my life
She was too fast for me
I count my steps because I'm OCD

Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey

No life from Paloma to Rose
Sometimes I feel like I'm a ghost
Changing into street clothes in a tent
I just want this summer to end (summer to end)
My heart is so landlocked
Nothing but tourist shops
It's just like a curse, you see
This bummed out feeling that she's over me
She's over me
I put my jacket over my head
I'm trying not to stare at her chest
I can't even dance in the dark
'Cause my headphones are still on the seat of her car

Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey
Hey, hey

Kumbaya makes me get violent

I just want this summer to end
Whoa

Overall Meaning

The song "Endless Bummer" by Weezer is a melancholic tune that explores the singer's feelings about a summer romance that has gone wrong. The opening lines of the song set the tone with its repetition of "Hey, hey," suggesting a lack of focus or direction. The singer sings about his desire for summer to end and his disillusionment with the relationship he's been in. He acknowledges that he's not as cool as he wants to be, and that he's been left behind by his love interest.

As the song progresses, the singer becomes increasingly introspective about his situation. He describes feeling like a ghost and changing into street clothes in a tent, suggesting a lack of stability and a sense of displacement. His heart feels "landlocked" and he's surrounded by tourist shops, creating a sense of suffocation and stagnation. The singer is also dealing with some mental health challenges, as evidenced by his counting of steps due to OCD.

In the second verse, the lyrics become more explicit about the singer's romantic struggles. He describes the bummed out feeling of being left behind by his love interest, and how he is trying to avoid looking at her chest. The closing lines of the song indicate that he has become excessively agitated, as Kumbaya makes him feel violent.

Overall, "Endless Bummer" is a sad and relatable song about the end of a romance and the ennui that can settle in during the dog days of summer. The lyrics capture a sense of frustration and displacement that many listeners will relate to, with the repetitive "Hey, hey" adding to the feeling of aimlessness.

I've always been one to defend Weezer's post Pinkerton albums for what they were. Sure, not nearly as good, but they had their moments and weren't the garbage they were portrayed as. Now that we have The White Album and EWBAITE, I seriously wonder what was holding Rivers back all those mid-career years. These songs are not just alright, they're fantastic.

Reality Hurts, I do. "Feels Like Summer" especially.

Each Weezer album takes me back to a specific time in my life. This album stands out for me, it is probably their best album since Red.

@soysaucefool

But to answer your question, I think Rivers was just experimenting. He doesn't want to get stuck playing power-pop songs. But this album definitely harkens back to those quirky and loud songs of old.

Back in the day, Rivers was caught a lot of flack and criticism for Pinkerton. In an interview he explained that Blue was an album they did to satisfy listeners for the time, but Pinkerton was a more personal album (hence the raw sound) so it put him in a deep state of depression and shame, so I think he was terrified of making anything sound Pinkerton-esque. I think he finally kicked the funk around the time of the Red Album and I believe the song Pork N Beans references that. It was also around that time that us older millennials were rediscovering those albums and people of that era were coming back around and showed it (Pinkerton) the love it deserved but never got.

Anything at the beginning of 2010s are either not so good to ok. It's just when EWBAITE got released it just got more attention for being liked. For 2000s Green, Red, and Maladroit are ok to pretty good but again... they have hits and misses more after Green (Green and Maladroit each produced 2 singles that really everyone know even if it's just a snippet like Dope Nose and Island in the sun).

One of my favourite Weezer songs. One of my bucket list ambitions was to make it to California and sit on a beach, listening to this song as I looked out onto the ocean. It was awesome :)

@clairekim2525

Though none of the band members are from California originally, they managed to capture just the feeling and vibe of SoCal so well, it makes me nostalgic and homesick even though I still live in LA. I actually hate the beach, but this song is conjuring false memores of me in my youth sitting and watching the sun set as waves crashed around me. This album is so good all around.

@kibberkobber

Rivers, solos are sounding great. Im really enjoying this album. Id like to make a toast to Weezer. For staying in the game, despite all critics, failed experiments, and Ratitudes, you pulled through and are making every day just a little bit easier.

@myles8246

his guitar solos on this album is fucking amazing. this one, do u want to get high, LA girlz
