Weezer Lyrics

Hey
Hey, yeah, um, I would like to know

Yes

Yes

Come on governor, speak up then young lad
Okay, I'd like to know
Why was your first self titled album
So like, put together and like perfect
And why was your uh, second album like, like

Less like that?
Yeah
Dude
Dude
What a bummer
Dude, you're bumming me out

It's like, because your first album like
Was like cool but it sucked
But your second album like came back, it was pretty good

Sucked but it was cool

I can, I can answer that question
The point, the point you're trying to make is
The first album was very produced, second album had a much more raw feel to it

It's like they paid two thousand dollars for the first album
And like five hundred for the second one

It costs a lot of money to sound like that

When we went to make our first album we were all very um

Preppy?

No, it wasn't that
It was we were nervous and we wanted to sound good
So I think we were in the wrong frame of mind
We were making sure everything was perfect
And it came out sounding a bit sterile I think

Yeah

Yeah

Yeah, I'm on your homepage right now

Really? I've never even been there, so I don't know what you're looking at but

You're glad

So are you um
The second album, when you went in to record it
Was that an intentional thing, to make it more raw sounding, Rivers?

No I think it was just uh
Bit more natural
Just be ourselves, yeah, be natural

And
C sharp
At that point, we had toured for a year and a half
So we were pretty confident that we could just press record
And it would sound presentable

Cool

So we just had fun

Overall Meaning

The song "Interview" by Weezer is a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the band's early music and the expectations of fans and critics. The lyrics consist of a mock interview where the interviewer asks why their first self-titled album was produced so perfectly and why their second album had a much more raw feel to it. The band members respond with witty banter discussing their own nervousness and desire to sound good on their first album, which resulted in a sterile sound. By their second album, they had gained more confidence and were able to just be themselves, resulting in a more relaxed and natural sound.

The song is a self-aware commentary on the band's own evolution and the expectations placed on them by fans and critics. By using humor and sarcasm, they poke fun at themselves while also addressing the challenges of being a successful band. The lyrics also highlight the importance of just being true to oneself, rather than trying to conform to others' expectations.

What amazes me is how we all miss our collective understanding of what it means to be an animal.

Do you have a permit for your minkey 🐒 ?

We all wanna keep the fun coming. Solitude is boring but the older we get and the more we know our TREASURED loved ones in our work family or home, the more we pine 🎍 for the novel and exciting.

Speaking of rewards, the Sweater Song beckons. Jeez Louise do I love me Mr. Cuomo's work.

I think Conan's tone is so appropriate in this interview. It seems to set Rivers at ease, and there's clearly a mutual respect between them. I can't wait to listen to the entire interview. Rivers and Conan (edit: not 'Cuomo'!) are two of my favorite creatives - inspiring me in different ways since the 90s!

Christopher

Rivers and Cuomo? 😄 You mean Rivers and Conan, right? Or is this like a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde situation lol

@Christopher haha yep!

Two successful creative Harvard guys. They might have a similar wavelength to their vibe.

Albert Tam

Was a huge Weezer fan growing up. Still blows my mind the guy was a garage rock icon and then just went to college as an unrecognizable dude.

Mr. Popo

It's one of the most Weezer things ever imo

drunken drink

I don't understand why it blew your mind. It's actually the most sane thing a popular artist could do

romeohio

@drunken drink The point is he’s surprised nobody recognized him or gave him unwanted attention.

Andrew

Rivers has become more physically recognizable with age, circa 1995 he was literally just some dude

Rivers is such a nice, humble guy. I’m happy for him and the bands success.
