Don’t Push Me
Wendy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When the television goes black
Then I have to go back
To feeling alone
I need another dopamine rush
So I hit my friends up
To keep the night going
So we're rolling
Then we get in the cab
We don't notice
We're just hiding the fact that we're broken
We don't know who are
Now we're wasted
Fearless and reckless and jaded
Why is life so complicated
We don't know who we are
No don't take me home
Cause I don't wanna come down
Keep the voices in my head from getting out
Don't take me home
I don't wanna come down
I don't know myself when you are not around
Oh, oh, oh
I need to sit alone with my thoughts
Before they swallow me up
Leaving me hopeless
But I just can't stop checking my phone
Shoulda turned the thing off
Cause I keep losing focus
No don't take me home
Cause I don't wanna come down
Keep the voices in my head from getting out
Don't take me home
I don't wanna come down
I don't know myself when you are not around
Oh, oh, oh
I don't know myself when you are not around
Oh, oh, oh
So we're rolling
We get in the cab
We don't notice
We're just hiding the fact that we're broken
We don't know who we are
Now we're wasted
We're fearless and reckless and jaded
Why is life so complicated
Don't know who we are
No don't take me home
Cause I don't wanna come down
I don't wanna come down
I don't wanna come down, no
No don't take me home

I don't wanna come down
I don't know myself when you are not around

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Wendy & Seulgi's song "Don't Push Me" explore themes of loneliness, seeking escapism, and losing oneself in the chaos of modern life. The song opens with the line "When the television goes black, then I have to go back to feeling alone," suggesting that the distractions of technology and entertainment cannot fill the void of loneliness. The singer craves a dopamine rush, seeking temporary relief by reaching out to friends and keeping the night going. They are aware of their brokenness and are hiding it from others, unsure of who they really are.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the singer's resistance to going home, as they struggle with the fear of coming down from the temporary high. They don't want the voices in their head to overpower them, and they feel lost without the presence of someone else. The lyrics express a struggle to find their identity and introspect, feeling overwhelmed and unable to stop checking their phone.

Throughout the song, the repeated line "We don't know who we are" reflects a sense of confusion and uncertainty. The lyrics suggest that life is complicated, and the singer is grappling with their own complexity and searching for a sense of self. They long for connection and fear losing themselves when someone important is not around.

rv has the strongest vocal line!!

Sarah Chan
Yup. Best outright girl group vocalist in Wendy, mixed with Seulgi, that's two power vocals that would have no competition for main vocals in any other girl group. And then Joy, Irene, and Yeri can more than hold their own. And then they're all so versatile... Vocally, they are stacked for success in spades. Just, ahhh, as a vocal instructor, I can't stop marvelling over RV. Too perfect!

@vincentciussatya9853

sorry ? their sunbaenim has the best vocal line in korean history, not redvelvet. Their sunbae what did i mean is Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, and Seohyun

@ChrisBrengel

+Sarah Chan I gotta go with Mamamoo, but I get your point.
