Our Own World

Keeps going on with time
Never ending song of the wind
Nature's own design
And the people
Who don't really know
Cut down the trees
More and more it seems everyday
They're giving up green for grey
Hey, hey, hey
This world we live in is a wonderful world
The lands and the oceans and air
Respect and protect it, our wonderful world
A world that we all can share, our world
A world that we all can share
We talk of our hopes
And whisper our dreams
Of peace and love and care
We dream of a world
Where everyone lives in freedom everywhere
And the people
Who don't really know
Give up their dreams
They let them go
More and more it seems everyday
They're giving up green for grey
Hey, hey, hey
This world we live in is a wonderful world
The lands and the oceans and air
Respect and protect it, our wonderful world
A world that we all can share
If we try we can make it right again
If we learn that we can all be friends
To every living creature
Every living thing
So let us sing
This world we live in is a wonderful world
The lands and the oceans and air
Respect and protect it, our wonderful world
A world that we all can share
This world we live in is a wonderful world
The lands and the oceans and air
Respect and protect it, our wonderful world
A world that we all can share, our world
A world that we all can share, our world
The lyrics of Wendy's song "Our Own World" reflect a deep concern for the environment and a call for unity and responsibility towards the Earth we inhabit. The song begins with a reflection on the cyclical nature of life, emphasizing how the relentless passage of time is intertwined with the eternal song of the wind and the intricate design of nature. This imagery sets the stage for the overarching theme of the song - the destructive impact of human actions on the natural world.
The lyrics highlight the contrast between those who are ignorant of the consequences of their actions and continue to harm the environment by cutting down trees and expanding cities, and those who are aware and strive to protect and preserve the beauty of the Earth. The repeated refrain of "they're giving up green for grey" underscores the gradual transformation of lush natural landscapes into concrete jungles, symbolizing the loss of biodiversity and natural habitats in the face of urbanization and industrialization.
Throughout the song, there is a strong emphasis on the interconnectedness of all living beings and the importance of empathy and cooperation. The mention of hopes, dreams, peace, love, and freedom conveys a yearning for a world where humanity lives in harmony with each other and with nature. The lyrics urge people to not give up on their dreams and to work towards creating a world where every living creature is valued and protected.
The repeated assertions that "this world we live in is a wonderful world" serve as a reminder of the inherent beauty and preciousness of the Earth and a plea for respect and stewardship. The call to "respect and protect it" is a rallying cry for collective action to safeguard the environment for future generations. The song concludes with a hopeful message that if we come together, embrace friendship, and extend our compassion to every living thing, we can strive towards a shared future where we can all coexist harmoniously in our own world.
