If Only
Westbound Train Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Silence won't get you heard.
I can buy time till morning but I can't find time to work.
Solution is coming shortly,
I'm sure I'll just make matters worse.
One day saying if only,
I put actions behind my words.
Plots will unfold.
Hearts will break,
pain will take it's toll.
Loose at the seams, I'll come undone
if only I finished what I begun.
If only I stayed didn't run away,
If only I still, I still had yesterday.
What's real will bring you glory.
What hurts will make you strong.
Your life's a controversy for
the next man who comes along.
Times will change.
Plots will unfold.
Hearts will break,
pain will take it's toll.
Loose at the seams, I'll come undone
if only I finished what I begun.
If only I stayed didn't run away,
If only I still, I still had yesterday.
If only I still x4
Times will change.
Plots will unfold.
Hearts will break,
pain will take it's toll.
Loose at the seams, I'll come undone
if only I finished what I begun.
If only I stayed didn't run away,
If only I still, I still had yesterday.
The lyrics to Westbound Train's song "If Only" speak about regret and the desire to take action. The opening lines say that keeping secrets and remaining silent won't achieve anything, but instead, action is necessary to make a difference. The chorus repeats the phrase "if only" to express regret for not following through on something, whether it's finishing a project, staying in a relationship or standing our ground. The lyrics also talk about the inevitability of change, heartbreak and pain, and how we must embrace them to toughen up and grow as individuals. The final lines about being a controversy echo the idea that our lives and actions will impact those around us, and hence we must take responsibility and make the most of our opportunities.
Overall, "If Only" is a meaningful song about taking action and overcoming regret. It encourages the listener to reflect on their past choices and think about how they can make positive changes for their future.
