Slipping Away
Western Union Band Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Watching everything you do
And I just can't help this feeling
Someone else is stealing you away from me
I see it written in your eyes
You confirm it with your lies
Though the way you weep can hold me
I would rather that you told me
Oooh slipping away from me
Oooh slipping away from me
And it′s breaking me in two
Watching you slipping away
Baby I've been watching you
Watching everything you do
And I just can't help this feeling
Someone else is stealing you away from me
I see it written in your eyes
You confirm it with your lies
Though the way you weep can hold me
I would rather that you told me
Where you wanna be
Oooh slipping away from me
Oooh slipping away from me
And it′s breaking me in two
Watching you slipping away
And it′s breaking me in two
Watching you slipping away
And it's breaking me in two
Watching you slipping away
The Western Union Band's song "Slipping Away" is a ballad about the fear of losing someone you love to another person. The lyrics express the singer's insecurity and anxiety as they watch their lover's behavior and suspect that there is someone else in their life. The repeated refrain of "slipping away from me" emphasizes the sense of helplessness that the singer feels, as if their lover is slowly but surely moving farther out of their reach. The second verse suggests that the lover is trying to hide their infidelity, perhaps through lies or tears, which only makes the singer's fear and hurt worse.
Overall, the lyrics present a picture of a relationship that is fraught with tension and mistrust. The singer is consumed with the fear of losing their lover, and they are struggling to get a straight answer about where their lover's heart truly lies. The repetition of the chorus and the use of "breaking me in two" in the final lines emphasize the emotional toll that this uncertainty is taking on the singer.
One interpretation of the song is that it speaks to the universality of heartbreak and the fear of losing a loved one. Everyone at some point in their life has experienced the feeling of someone slipping away, whether it be through infidelity or simply growing apart. The lyrics convey this universal pain in a relatable way, making the song timeless.

This version is better than the original from Max Merritt & The Meteors. I'm from Singapore and grew up listening to WUB.
