In 1995 Whale released the mini-album Pay For Me and their debut, We Care (featuring a number of appearances by trip-hop genius Tricky), which reached #42 on the British charts but failed to yield another hit like "Slobo Babe" (although "I'll Do Ya" did chart in Britain, reaching #53) and after opening for Blur on a North American tour, Cyrus left the band to form his own hip-hop record company. After a lengthy hiatus, new members Jorgen Wall (drums), Jon Jefferson Klingberg (second guitar), and Heikki Kiviaho (bass) joined in time to record their follow-up, 1998's All Disco Dance Must End in Broken Bones. Recorded in Chicago and London, the album was produced and engineered by Chris Potter (the Verve) and Brad Wood (Veruca Salt, Placebo) and reached #42 on the British charts. An extensive U.S. tour with Tricky followed soon after the album's release.
In the late 1990s a presentation of the band on its official website stated that its original name was Southern Whale Cult 1987, and that several albums had previously been released in that name. This was later admitted to have been a joke - the band had copied a presentation of The Cult and simply changed the name of the band in the text.
2. Whale (born March 6, 1985) is a South Korean vocalist, who is half of the group W & Whale, a collaboration between herself and W (Where The Story Ends).

Head under my pillow
This is where I hide, you see
From the people watching me
They use electricity
They use electricity
They use electricity
I'm a big girl, I don't weep
Waiting for tomorrow
They are coming after me
They're always coming after me
They use electricity
They use electricity
They use electricity
The shadow's closing in on me
I am where I used to sleep
Head under my pillow
This is where I hide, you see
From the people watching me
They use electricity
They use electricity
They use electricity
The shadow's closing in on me
They use electricity
They use electricity
They use electricity
The shadow's closing in on me
I'm a big girl, I don't weep
Waiting for tomorrow
They are coming after me
They're always coming after me
They use electricity
They use electricity
They use electricity
The shadow's closing in on me
They use electricity
They use electricity
They use electricity
The shadow's closing in on me
They use electricity
They use electricity
The shadow's closing in on me
The shadow's closing in
Ooh
The lyrics of Whale's song "Electricity" convey a sense of paranoia and fear towards an unknown entity that the singer is hiding from. The repetition of the line, "They use electricity," suggests that this entity has some kind of power or control over the singer. The image of the head under the pillow and hiding from people highlight the singer's sense of vulnerability and the urgency to keep themselves safe. The use of electricity could be interpreted as a metaphor for something that is controlling the singer's thoughts or actions, something that they cannot escape from, hence the shadow closing in on them.
The lines "I'm a big girl, I don't weep. Waiting for tomorrow. They are coming after me, they're always coming after me," reveal the singer's determination to resist the entity's control and to keep fighting. They refuse to give in to fear, and instead wait for a chance to overcome their oppressor. However the shadow is constantly closing in on them, which suggests that the singer is struggling to keep this entity at bay. The ambiguity of the lyrics raises questions about what the entity could represent; it could be interpreted in different ways such as personal demons, an oppressive figure or even technology.
In conclusion, Whale's song "Electricity" is a haunting yet powerful song that explores the theme of fear and control in a cryptic manner. The evocative lyrics combined with the melody create a sense of unease and emotional urgency. It's an intriguing song that leaves a lot of room for interpretation and imagination.
