Technology
Whigs The Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I watched on CBS as Rudy made it, it's now on
T.V. debut.
And through all the big commotions it
was clear that she was missing me too.
And I try,and I try, and I try, and I try, cause it would.
And I scream, and I scream, and I scream, and I
scream, cause it would.
Stuck in the thought, that she was ready to go.
She said "I miss you for an instant but that
instant is old."
And she said, "Technology, it needs me."
I'm screaming, I'm mad, I gotta daily ?
She said "I just don't feel like myself."
And she said. "Technology it needs me."

We're sinking like sand.
We were tailors to the house of your dream.
On the surface she was sure its still regardless shes the homecoming queen.

And I try, and I try, and I try, and I try, cause
it would.
And I scream, and I scream, and I scream, and I scream, cause it would.

Stuck in the thought, that she was ready to go.
She said "I miss you for an instant but that
instant is old."
And she said. "Technology, it needs me."
Well if you want me then I'd tell ya, "Too bad."
Cause I gotta be by myself.
And she said, "I'm all your fault I'm leaving."

And I try, and I try, and I try, and I try, cause
it would.
And I scream, and I scream, and I scream, and I scream, cause it would.

Stuck in the thought, that she was ready to go.
She said "I miss you for an instant but that instant is old."
And she said, "Technology, it needs me."
Well if you want me then I'd tell ya, "Too bad."
Cause I gotta be by myself. And she said, "I'm all your fault I'm leavin."

Oh yeah! In the end, its your fault, and your
fault, and your fault, and your fault, and your
fault.
Oh yeah, yeah! In the end, its your

fault, and your fault, and your fault, and your
fault, and your fault.

Overall Meaning

In "Technology," The Whigs explore the challenges of maintaining a relationship in a world where technology dominates. The song opens by commenting on Rudy's success and how it's been documented for the world to see on CBS. Amidst all the attention, however, one thing is clear: she misses the singer just as much as he misses her. The singer repeatedly tries to connect with her, but it's no use. She's too focused on her technological pursuits.

The chorus features the line "Technology, it needs me," which is repeated throughout the song. It's not clear exactly what this means, but it seems to signify the hold that technology has on the singer's partner. She feels compelled to pursue it, even if it means sacrificing her relationship. The verses continue with the singer's desperation and frustration as he tries to win her back. But in the end, she blames him for her departure.

The overall message of the song seems to be about the difficulty of reconciling human relationships with technology. While our gadgets and devices offer us many conveniences and pleasures, they can also blur the lines between people and make it difficult to maintain real, meaningful connections.

Plus - The guitar in this song always reminds me of an early KISS (Dressed To Kill / Destroyer) kinda' sound which of course makes me feel all warm & fuzzy inside ;-)

Some of this lyrics are incorrect.

Rudy made it's "network TV debut"..."beer commercials"...I'm screaming a tad, "like on a daily talk show"...and the house of "your dream"
