Wait
Whirr Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't wait for me. I wont wait for you.
Don't wait up all night, don't stay up until it's light.
Who are you to argue with our thoughts on where our lives are going.
Faces with eyes never showing.
Who are you to say you know me?
Look at me, look at yourself.
Where have we gone so fast, so wrong?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Whirr's song "Wait" are open to interpretation, but it seems to be about the end of a relationship where one person is telling the other person not to wait for them since they won't be waiting for them either. The lyrics suggest a sense of hopelessness and detachment as the singer questions who they are to argue with their own choices and where their life is going. The lines "Faces with eyes never showing" and "Look at me, look at yourself" indicate a lack of connection and understanding between the two parties.

The chorus of "Wait" emphasizes the theme of disconnection and asks where things went wrong. The repetition of "wait" highlights the singer's inability to provide the other person with what they need, and the last line "where have we gone so fast, so wrong?" suggests regret and a desire to reconcile.

Overall, "Wait" is a somber song that captures the pain of a relationship falling apart and the bitter reality of moving on.

I love this band so much. They have a sort of sound that other shoegaze bands, in my opinion, tend to over exaggerate. It's perfect, and I'll be listening to it years from now. Currently 17 years old. It's February 25th, 2020, 21:52 EST. By chance, or by search bar, I'll be back to compliment Whirr once again.

Wow, who knew a few weeks after I made this comment, the world would change forever. Kinda haunting to think Whirr was one of the last things I listened to before that happened.

Well, I'm healthy, and so are my loved ones, so I guess I'm managing. Hopefully things get universally better sometime soon. It's March 12, 2021, 09:03 EST. I'll be back sometime!

2 years later to the day by chance I found this song and I'm reading this comment describing a similar experience with this band, funny thing I'm 17 years old too, what a coincidence.
