Mishra, a straight edger and ex-Marxist, often incorporates political concerns in his songs veiled in terms of personal relationships (as in his only hit). After a troubled working relationship with EMI Records, Mishra was dropped from the label in 1997 and since then has gone back to working with indie labels like Parasol Records. His last album, 2000's Peek & Poke, received moderately enthusiastic reviews but sold pitifully compared to his major label work.
In 2005 White Town contributed the song "The PNAC Cabal" to the charity album "Voyces United for UNHCR" (Voyces United for UNHCR (disc 1)).
In October 2006 White Town released a new album, Don't Mention The War on Mishra's own label, Bzangy Records.

White Town Lyrics

After everything that we planned,
How you could turn around to me and
whisper goodbye. Well I've been dropped before
But not so high off the floor
And I just can't seem to pick myself up
again. If it's something that I said
That made you feel this way,
hello, But most likely I know.
Your parents said baby no
And the boy you told your friends about
just had to go. Well it's a white town
with green trees. And nothing in love is free
So if it's not worth fighting for It's worth nothing at all.
The song "White Town" by White Town expresses the feeling of heartbreak, confusion, and betrayal. The lyrics describe the singer's struggle with understanding why their lover would leave them after everything they had planned together. The singer expresses their pain metaphorically, describing themselves as having been dropped from a high height and unable to pick themselves back up. They question if they said something that caused their lover to leave, and regret everything they might have said to them, including their first greeting.
The second verse reveals a possible explanation for the lover's departure. The singer suggests that their lover's parents disapproved of their relationship, causing their lover to end things. The phrase "the boy you told your friends about just had to go" implies that the lover may have been pressured by others to end things, rather than having made the decision on their own. The chorus of the song uses the image of a "white town with green trees" to suggest that the singer's world has lost its color and life since their lover left.
Overall, the song "White Town" is a melancholic and emotionally moving reflection on love and loss, with a subtle reference to societal pressures and limitations on romantic relationships.
Line by Line Meaning
I can't understand
I am unable to comprehend
After everything that we planned,
Despite all our plans and efforts,
How you could turn around to me and whisper goodbye.
It's difficult for me to accept that you broke up with me so unexpectedly and silently.
Well I've been dropped before
I've experienced breakups before,
But not so high off the floor
But this time it hurts more than all others,
And I just can't seem to pick myself up again.
I find it difficult to recover and move on from this relationship.
If it's something that I said
If my words caused this unexpected breakup,
That made you feel this way,
If my words made you feel bad or hurt,
Then I take back every word from the first hello,
Then I regret all that I ever said or did since the start of our relationship,
But most likely I know.
But probably it's not about what I said or did.
Your parents said baby no
Maybe your parents disapproved of me or our relationship,
And the boy you told your friends about just had to go.
So you had to end our relationship, despite what you told your friends about me.
Well it's a white town with green trees.
The place where we live is a white town with green trees.
And nothing in love is free
In love, there's nothing that comes without a cost, sacrifice, or compromise.
So if it's not worth fighting for It's worth nothing at all.
If this love or relationship isn't worth fighting for, then it's not worth anything at all.

I wonder who made and directed the video? It complements the music so well, the expressions and movements. Combined it's a work of art & a lesson in life
