It's My Life
Whitecross Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I hate this feeling, I just don′t know
The cards you're dealing fell on the floor
What′s this you gave me? I can't believe
With the shuffle of life I'm torn

It′s all right this too will pass
I′m as sharp as broken glass
No need to worry, no need to fear
I wanna make just one thing clear

Feelings are like the wind
They come and they go
Ooh, don't you know?

It′s my life and I'll do what I want
It′s my life go on and leave me alone
It's my life and I know what I need
Ya hear me devil? I said it′s my life

And now this morning, you come along
And you're singing the same old song
I will not worry I will not fear
I'm gonna make this ooh so clear

Feelings are like the wind
They come and they go
Ooh, don′t you know?

It′s my life and I'll do what I want
It′s my life go on and leave me alone
It's my life and I know what I need
Ya hear me devil? I said it′s my life

You better listen up close
I will not follow you
I'm gonna stand with Christ
Don′t wanna end up with you

Feelings are like the wind
They come and they go
Ooh, don't you know?

It's my life and I′ll do what I want
It′s my life go on and leave me alone

It's my life and I know what I need
Ya hear me devil? I said it′s my life

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Whitecross's song "It's My Life" is about taking ownership of one's life and not allowing others to dictate what happens in it. The song's opening lines convey a sense of confusion and frustration over the unpredictability of life. The singer questions the cards he has been dealt with and the challenges he is facing. However, he is confident that he will make it through, and his resolve is strengthened by the belief that "this too will pass."

The chorus proclaims the theme of the song, which is that the singer is in control of his life, and he will do as he pleases. He asks the devil, who symbolizes everything that tries to pull him down, if he hears him. The bridge of the song states that feelings are fleeting, and they come and go like wind. The singer has a clear understanding of this, reinforcing the message that he will not let anything or anyone control him.

The song's final verse speaks out against following someone who has a negative influence and leads to a path that is against the singer's goals. Instead, he will stand with Christ and make his own choices, even if that means standing alone.

Overall, "It's My Life" is a powerful message about taking control and ownership of one's life and not allowing outside forces to bring them down.

"thought the fight was fixed" rather than "thought the light was fixed". The imagery in the song is all about fighting in a ring and a fixed fight is not a fair one.
