You shouldn't hate anybody, especially yourself, becouse if you do then there is something wrong with your relationship with God.
You can (and should) love yourself, be self confident and have dignity and still be humble and modest to others and worship and admire God. Modesty doesn't equal self hatered.
If you hate yourself it doesn't mean you are a bad person it just means you are unable to have quality, loving realtionships with your husband/wife,children,family,friends.. because that self hate will make you unconsciously do or say things that will hurt other people around you.
I don't think my parents didn't love me, they just made me feel that way because that's the way they feel about themselfs.
The important thing is to recognize where this self hate comes from and deal with those emotions, and of course forgive, I did. :)
And now, as the song says, I'm learning to love myself and hope to be able to give this love to my kids so they have childhood they deserve. I'm glad I will break this negative chain of self hate in my family.
