Return
Whorl Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Rolling down the hills in wait
Lying in wait and only then
Can we see what's left in hate
Huddled and alone again
Open ended empty handed
Only time will tell
What's in the cellar behind the gate
What's hiding in the well
Only time will tell
Only time will tell

Only time will tell
Only time

Overall Meaning

These lyrics by Whorl in their song "Return" depict a sense of anticipation and uncertainty. The opening line, "Rolling down the hills in wait," suggests the feeling of slowly descending towards something, perhaps an impending event or revelation. The phrase "lying in wait and only then" adds to the suspense, implying that there is something hidden or unknown that will only be revealed at the right moment.

The following line, "Can we see what's left in hate," hints at a deeper exploration of emotions and the consequences they can leave behind. It suggests that hate may have caused damage or resulted in something negative, and the lyrics invite reflection on what remains after such intense emotions have subsided.

The next lines, "Huddled and alone again, open-ended, empty-handed," convey a sense of isolation and vulnerability. The repetition of the word "again" implies a repetition of a familiar situation, suggesting that the singer may have found themselves in a similar state before. The mention of being "open-ended" and "empty-handed" presents a feeling of not knowing where to turn or what to expect.

The repeated phrase "Only time will tell" throughout the lyrics serves as a reminder that answers will eventually reveal themselves, but only with the passage of time. This phrase reinforces the idea of waiting and remaining patient for clarity or resolution. The mention of a "cellar behind the gate" and "what's hiding in the well" further accentuates the mystery and the need for time to uncover hidden truths.

In summary, Whorl's lyrics in "Return" convey a sense of anticipation and uncertainty, exploring themes of isolation, the aftermath of intense emotions, and the need for time to reveal what is hidden. The repetition of the phrase "Only time will tell" emphasizes the importance of patience and the eventual unveiling of answers.

Damn, I miss John Horton.... :D

@jayst

I’m having a harder time following this book vs the previous in the series because it’s difficult to tell when Horn is narrating vs actually speaking.
I can’t understand a single word of what Pig is saying.

Also the beginning of this book is very confusing. I’m still happy to have this audiobook available to me though.
