1) Wide (Italy)
The band was formed in 2001 after an online meeting between Antonio Rafaschieri and Gianni Pollex. For about three years the sound of the band was very much based on the unrestrained sounds of the British invasion starting with the Beatles, passing through Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin and arriving at the more recent U2, Oasis and Coldplay. Afterwards, with the arrival of the drummer Beppe Garavelli, the bass player Giorgio Cutrignelli and the guitarist Bepy Capasso, the sound scene changed and headed towards an easier musicality, tending more towards an Italian style pop-rock in the wake of artists who have left their mark such as Lucio Battisti, Vasco Rossi, Ligabue. In their own words, “Our aim is to write great songs, catchy tunes, sometimes thoughtful other times danceable, imprinting in the listener’s heart touching choruses which are easy to sing along to. Forced ‘marketability’ with hidden intentions is never a good thing; nonetheless the masses, for good or for bad, are always right and the audience is the only real judge and critic! We make no attempt to hide our aspirations to give life to magnificent concerts for people of every age.”

And spend our days apart
Cause I don't know
Should I jump right into your arms
or just let you go?
It's easier to put on the face that never shows
If Tinder was a castle
I'd be the queen of the DM-game
And I said: baby lower down your expectations
Cause I'm gonna break 'em
Before it gets too real
I need you to slow the fuck down
Too real
No I wont be coming around
Too real
Keep your right up in the cloud
Cause I'm afraid that things might get too real
I need you to slow the fuck down
Too real
No I wont be coming around
Too real
Keep your right up in the cloud
Uh why don't we take it slow
Its not like your old mama ever has to know
It feels so natural
Being casual with you
Closer to you
Your pulling me closer to your
But babe I just can't do
When you refer to me as boo
I'd be making you a fool
Cause you'd be following my rules
Lets stay inside and chill
So no one ever will see that you're real
I need you to slow the fuck down
Too real
No I wont be coming around
Too real
Keep your right up in the cloud
Cause I'm afraid that things might get too real
I need you to slow the fuck down
Too real
No I wont be coming around
Too real
Keep your right up in the cloud
I need you to slow the fuck down
No I wont be coming around
Keep your right up in the cloud
I need you to slow the fuck down
No I wont be coming around
Keep your right up in the cloud
The cloud
To real
Oh you are
Oh you are
To real
Oh you are
Boy you are too real
I need you to slow the fuck down
Too real
No I wont be coming around
Too real
Keep your right up in the cloud
Cause I'm afraid that things might get too real
I need you to slow the fuck down
Too real
No I wont be coming around
Too real
Keep your right up in the cloud
I need you to slow the fuck down
Too real
No I wont be coming around
Too real
Keep your right up in the cloud
Cause I'm afraid that things might get too real
I need you to slow the fuck down
Too real
No I wont be coming around
Too real
Keep your right up in the cloud
The cloud
The lyrics of Wide's song "Too Real" explore themes of uncertainty, emotional distance, and the fear of intimacy in a relationship. The singer expresses a desire to keep things low-key and maintain some distance from their partner, as they grapple with conflicting feelings about whether to fully commit or let go. The decision-making process is complicated by the ease of presenting a facade and avoiding emotional vulnerability, as indicated by the reference to being skilled at navigating the world of online dating with detachment ("queen of the DM-game").
The chorus of the song repeatedly emphasizes the need for the partner to slow down and maintain a level of emotional distance, symbolized by keeping their head "up in the cloud." The fear of things becoming too real, too intense, or too deep is palpable throughout the lyrics, suggesting a reluctance to fully immerse oneself in the relationship and confront the potential for genuine emotional connection. The refusal to come around and the insistence on creating barriers to intimacy reflect a defense mechanism against the vulnerability that comes with opening up to someone completely.
The verses delve into the internal struggle of the singer, torn between the comfort of casual intimacy and the discomfort of deeper emotional involvement. The reference to not wanting their "old mama" to ever know highlights a reluctance to bring the relationship into the light and confront the reality of their feelings. The push and pull dynamic is evident as the partner's attempts to pull them closer are met with resistance and a desire to maintain control over the situation by setting boundaries and establishing rules that prevent the relationship from becoming too real.
The repetition of the phrase "too real" underscores the central theme of the song, with the singer ultimately admitting that the partner's authenticity and genuine affection are overwhelming and intimidating. The plea to slow down and the insistence on keeping things in the cloud serve as a protective mechanism against the potential pain and vulnerability that come with allowing oneself to fully engage emotionally. The song captures the complexity of navigating the desire for connection with the fear of intimacy, highlighting the internal conflict and emotional barriers that can arise in relationships.
