Nocturne
Wild Nothing Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You wanna know me
What's to know
Do I amuse you
When the night is slow
Do your eyelids ever close
Caught spirits in your waking woes?

I know where to find you
I know where you go
And I just want to let you know
Oh, you can have me
You can have me all

Oh, you can have me
You can have me all

And you're twisted
What can I say
Your days are empty
And my tongue's decayed
And we're still just intently
One more night of your company

I know where to find you
I know where you go
And I just want to let you know
Oh, you can have me
You can have me all

Oh, you can have me
You can have me all

Oh, you can have me
You can have me all
Oh, you can have me
You can have me all
Oh, you can have me
You can have me all
Oh, you can have me
You can have me all
Oh, you can have me
You can have me all
Oh, you can have me
You can have me all
Oh, you can have me
You can have me all
Oh, you can have me
You can have me all

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Wild Nothing's song Nocturne appear to be a reflection on a relationship that is somewhat one-sided. The opening lines "You wanna know me, what's to know?" suggest that the singer is hesitant to let the other person in, but also perhaps a little flattered by their interest. The line "Do I amuse you when the night is slow?" adds a note of ambiguity - is the singer genuinely interested in this person, or are they just a source of entertainment when there's nothing else to do?

As the song continues, we get the sense that the relationship is not entirely healthy. The line "Your days are empty and my tongue's decayed" suggests that the two people involved are not exactly bringing out the best in each other. But despite this, the singer seems willing to continue the relationship - "One more night of your company". The repeated chorus, "Oh, you can have me, you can have me all" reinforces this idea of willingness and availability. It's not clear whether this is a relationship of convenience or genuine affection, but either way it seems somewhat unbalanced.

The line "Caught spirits in your waking woes?" adds a mystical note to the lyrics - perhaps suggesting that the other person is haunted in some way, or that their problems are more than just everyday concerns. Overall, the lyrics to Nocturne give the impression of a relationship that is complex and emotionally fraught - but also one that the singer is willing to pursue, at least for now.

Shadow: Oh, why is your hate so addicting and I wonder where you've been I don't see you often. I try to feel something for you. But that's all that I can do; give my Shadow to you. Do you ever see me at night? And does it please you at all with your head on the wall? I'd go with you if you asked me to, but we wouldn't get too far. Two strangers in the dark.

Midnight Song: In my head you dance like curtains in the wind. You're my burden. And I can't feel your heart. I've been gone. I've been gone. I can't release these sighs. You won't hear. You won't know. You won't ever know. Harden your heart it was falling from the start and though I try I was always dead inside. Midnight Song. Sing you to the moon. I am your quiet night. You were gone to soon.

Nocturne: You wanna know me? What's to know. Do I amuse you when the night is slow? And do your eyelids ever close? Caught spirits in your waking woes. I know where to find you. I know where you go. And I just want to let you know. Oh, you can have me. You can have me all. Am I twisted? What can I say? Your days are empty and my tongue's decayed. And will you stay up just to tempt me one more night of your company?

Through The Grass: Do you see? The melting of our days in time. Is there time? Nothing ever stays. I let you go. You let me in. I want you. All around. Just long enough to touch this skin turning into dust. It's our song calling Through The Grass.

Only Heather: Dressed in the moonlight and paler than bone. She has got something that I've never known. Couldn't explain it I won't even try. She is so lovely she make me feel high. Oh, cause I'm with Heather. Only Heather. Can make feel this way. Misunderstood, yeah she's good I can tell. Though everyone tells me I'm under her spell. I'll never leave yeah they don't know our deal. It's better to fake than to love her for real.

This Chain Won't Break: And I don't know just what I got myself into. All I know is I can't let go. This Chain Won't Break. Because of you. All of these faces. All these faces well they look the same.

Disappear Always: Pull the blinds all the black dreams I've had well they don't mean much now. When I rise at noon I'm missing someone I don't know and I don't want to be alone. And this house is now a grave. I've been sleeping here for days. Im too hidden to awake. So I Disappear Always. Call someone up just to have a drink. We can talk about anything, I don't care. Get out of the house for an hour or two, but it's missing something I can't explain.

Paradise: Dancer in the night. Playing with my eyes. Velvet tongue so sweet. Say anything you like. Crush me with the lie. Tell me once or twice that love is Paradise.

Counting Days: On the way towards your descent. I could count every flower on the hill. The curtain drawn on your content. There's nothing left for me to forgive again. And it's cold in your bed. And these flowers have long been dead. If you wait you can see theres a place where I used to be. You wanna make me spin you wanna hold me in. Counting Days 'til you come in. I haven't lost you I just misplaced you. However bright I could tell. The window open no explanation. You're right in the sun and the dreaming has come undone. If you wait you can see there's no reason to disagree.

Blue Dress: Falling through your song. My desire's come undone. Though I looked for you all night. The words would never come. When I dreamt of you so sweet; in the garden of my touch. Drowning into sheets. Imaginary love.

Rheya: I still try to forget Rheya. She's flooding her bloodstream every time I close my eyes. Disappear, why won't you leave? I was never meant to see you here. As she cries at the ocean that gave her life. Touch me just one last time. I don't want to remember this life.

I can’t begin to explain how much this album means to me. It got me through high school now I’m in college and still listen to it almost every day…just so so so good.

I listen to this album before I go to bed. It’s indescribably beautiful and nostalgic

@tylerphillips6523

It means a lot to me too, I was in college at the time of its release and now I reflect back on it while working my full time job post college. I can't listen to it without thinking of calculus or studying chemistry with a girl named Rheya. Different paths, same appreciation of the music.

This is one of my favorite albums of all time, still after 10 years; there is not a bad song on here. When I found this album, I was in my early 20s, and my dad was slowly fading away due to cancer, and I was lost in life, depressed. I would go walk in the woods near my parents' house and smoke weed and just think about things. This one got me through some dark times, and I will always hold it close to my soul. What a masterpiece.

@chiedzachimedza5132

One of the most beautiful and nostalgic albums I've ever heard. Wild Nothing is everything.
