In 1988, Downing finally made his solo debut, releasing the self-titled Will Downing. The album featured a new version of John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme." The track did not fair well on the R&B charts but it managed to reach #4 on the Dance charts. In the United Kingdom, "A Love Supreme" managed to reach #14 on the singles charts.
Downing has released many albums throughout his career, always on the brink of stardom but never quite making it. In 1989 he released Come Together As One and in '91, Dream Fulfilled. The latter featured the single "I Try" which reached #13 on the R&B charts, Downing's best performance to date.
1993 saw Downing's fourth album release with Love's the Place to Be. In 1995, he released Moods and in 1997, Invitation Only. Continuing his steady stream of releases, 1998 saw Pleasures of the Night, 2000 offered All the Man You Need and in 2002, Sensual Journey.
With so many albums under his belt, Downing never slows down, releasing Emotions in 2003, Christmas, Love and You in 2004 and Soul Symphony in 2005.
While Will Downing has never been a massive celebrity in the United States, he has seen reasonable success in the United Kingdom.

I would do at this moment
When you're standing before me
With tears in your eyes
Tryin' to tell me that you
Found you another
And you just don't love me no more
I would say at this moment
When I'm faced with the knowledge
That you just don't love me
Did you think I would curse you
Or say things to hurt you
'Cause you just don't love me no more
Did you think I could hate you
Or raise my hands to you
Now come on you know me too well
How could I hurt you
When darling I love you
And you know I'd never, never hurt you
What do you think
I would give at this moment
If you stay I'd subtract twenty years from my life
I'd fall down on my knees
Kiss the ground that you walk on
If I could just hold you again
And I'd fall down on my knees
I kiss the ground that you walk on baby
If I could just hold you
If I could just hold you
If I could just hold you
Again
The lyrics of Will Downing’s ‘At This Moment’ depict a man being confronted with the heartbreaking news that his partner has found someone else and no longer loves him. The song is a poignant exploration of loss, heartbreak, and desperation in the aftermath of a failed relationship. The singer speaks directly to his ex, asking her what she expected him to do and say in response to her news. He teeters between hurt, anger, and love; questioning his ability to harbor hate for her, proclaiming his unwavering love for her, and even offering to give up years of his life to be with her once more.
Through the use of rhetorical questions, the lyrics invite the listener to consider how they might react in the same situation. The singer could curse and hurt his partner, or he could fall to his knees and beg for her back. Ultimately, he chooses the latter, asking for another chance to hold the one he loves so desperately. The song’s emotional intensity and vulnerability make it an enduring classic that resonates with anyone who has ever experienced heartbreak.
