Overall Meaning

In the song True by Willow, she sings about heartbreak and the coldness that comes with being in the shadow of love. I had an experience in my great-grandparents farmhouse, bought for them as a wedding gift.
It sat empty for 11 years out on the prairie of North Dakota.
I bought it for a song with the intention of running a small B&B.
I was alone in the house and heard what sounded like furniture being moved across the floor upstairs.
I went to investigate and when I reached the top of the stairs I began to have difficulty breathing.
I opened the second bedroom door and I swear on all that is holy I saw a vision? of my great Aunt sitting on the side of the bed in a colbolt blue dress crying!
My Mothers side of the family are deeply religious, so I haven’t told any of them my experience.
I do believe homes can be haunted or negative energy attached to them!
I will never forget what I saw!
Sadly, my best intentions of remodeling the home didn’t work out. (I married and lived out of state)

Fascinating video. I do have to point out that the cross shaped house design is extremely common here and being "inverted" would be true of all of them depending on your direction of reference as they rarely have radial symmetry. That being said, many have forgotten how bloody the Euro-Native wars were in Ohio and Indiana in their territorial days, entire battalions were lost frequently. Native mounds are not uncommon here either.

Being one of my ancestors surveyed the southern half of Indiana for the government, I think it is far to say that we've been here a while.

On a related note... My family's farm house is openly accepted to be haunted, "but it is okay because they are all family." While many in the family have experienced strange things, nothing malicious has ever occurred and none of us have other had an uncomfortable feeling in the house.

The house I grew up in also had many strange occurrences. Unfortunately, I can't say that they were never malicious and didn't take a long term toll.

When I was a kid, it was believed that humans have only existed for 50,000 years, but that number is now known to be more like 1,500,000 years (if you believe the ooparts, far older still). Pretty much everywhere you step, someone has probably died there at some point.

I grew up in a haunted house, newly built. Come find out, it wasn't the house that was haunted but the land it was built on. Almost everyone's home in the neighborhood had some kind of weird experiences. My advice is to never build a dwelling on top of an old settlement, native American or earlier human.

That’s practically impossible in certain parts of the world.. in Europe there were so many settlements, old cemeteries, mass graves from plagues and so on, wherever you step there’s probably a person buried there. I grew up in Switzerland and the park next to our home used to be a cemetery like a hundred years ago, there are still some of the bigger head stones standing there and a big monument stone to commemorate whoever was burried there before they bulldozed most of it and made it into a park. I remember when i was told that (shouldn’t really have been a surprise since there were some headstones remaining in certain areas) and I suddenly became hyper aware every time i went on a slide or on the mini climbing trail, just looking down wondering if theres a skeleton beneath my feet…. Never saw a ghost tho, probably because they’re all swiss

When I first visited Hawaii many years ago, a lot of the locals would warn me and others to NOT TAKE anything off the island! Seashells, rocks, soil. Anything, anywhere! Especially, somewhere sacred on the land. Locals said they received thousands of letters and packages every year at post office from people who have taken something off islands. They sent it back bc all kinds of bad stuff and bad luck since they had taken it off the island. Hoping for some reprieve.

I stayed in a haunted house for 2 weeks while I was in between housing 20 years ago. A co worker friend took over his mom's lease when she moved. He said the house was mostly empty but I could stay as long as I didn't mind it being haunted. I rolled my eyes and thought he was being dramatic.
I was exhausted from shuffling belonging into storage so I took time off to rest. One afternoon outside my bedroom I heard someone pacing up and down the hallway and continually flushing the toilet and pacing again. Irritated I kept saying Robert, cut that sh*t out! I woke up around 5 and no one was home. When he got in from work, he said I told you, the place is haunted. Still not enough to spook me or believe it was a ghost.
One night, it was really hot so we both slept on the couches in the living room to be close to the window A/C. I opened my eyes when I heard him say:. I told you your place is in the kitchen, now go on. I thought I saw the outline of an old lady wearing a granny night gown walking into the kitchen. Then I thought stress is really getting to me and I'm starting to hallucinate from his suggestions and went back to sleep.
One night, I decided to surprise my friend with real food instead of carryout. I cooked lamb chops with a lot of garlic and green beans. I don't know if this angered the ghost, but we were both about to turn it and we're sitting in the dining room talking while facing the kitchen. We both witnessed the lid of a glass cake stand lift of the base and crash to the floor. That was it! I said sorry, I can't sleep here and drove an hour south to my parents house and slept on their uncomfortable sofa for the remainder of time. I went back in daylight and packed my few things.

As someone who literally lives down the road from this house, I can confirm that the bone is real and it does belong to a little girl. I've had a few encounters myself with some spirits, one I'll share. There is this pale lady in a black dress with long black hair that will walk under the street lamps from around 12am-3am occasionally. But one time, she wasn't just in the road walking. One night, I went downstairs to get a drink. As I'm walking in, I look behind me, because at this time I'm afraid of the dark (I'm 7) and I peer into the basement which is beside the stairs leading upstairs, and walking into my room is this lady. But it didn't click and for some reason I thought it was my sister who wasn't nearly similar in height or appearance. I go back upstairs and as I'm about to yell at her to get out, I see no one. So I look around and absolutely no one was in there. Then it clicked, and what I remember seeing walk in was a tall lady (maybe 5'10"-ish) with long black hair and a tight dress, minus around the ankles, and walking in, it showed as if a breeze had blown her hair and the dress around her ankles back. That morning, I get on the bus for school and ask my neighbor is he believed in ghosts. He said yes and described the same figure he saw that night that I saw, without me even mentioning it to him. He had also been getting a drink when she was in his kitchen on a stool, tapping the table and humming. What a charming story :D

I think it could be true . The 1st home I purchased ( I’m in Australia) was 121 years old & had a terrible history , was built to bring the towns 1st Doctor over from England ( small country town ) , there were several deaths during emergency surgeries in what became a bedroom . There was a bedroom at the back with its own door which was weird found out that was the morgue. Every family that lived there over the years had the husband or wife die unexpectedly ( my 36 year old husband in my case ) , the man we bought it off , his wife. It had been a maternity hospital & a bit of a wild boarding house at other times . The Cobb n Co Coach stop was across the road . I am able to see & communicate with the spirit world , I saw and heard so much in that house . Had so many souls moved on from there . But more came . I have realised now years later that there was likely a portal there as there was always something going on . Footsteps , doors opening & closing . Fridge opening & slamming shut. I was often kept awake when I had to be up for working very early . I sold it after 3 & 1/2 years , it was just too u restful no matter how many times I used sage & cleansed & had a priest friend move spirits into the light . I think some houses are just beacons for spiritual unrest , and maybe it starts off with a few tragic events and the house attracts more of the same .

Never, ever disturb bones. You risk all kinds of rare weirdness. In my culture it's cause for a spirit to follow you until you put it back as you found it. The story of a man who found one and then threw it out his car window once he realised what he done is famous here. He later went mad trying to find the bone for years to get rid of the spirit following him. Edit: This person was real I met him and he had genuinely gone mad.

We inadvertently moved into an old two story duplex that sat over a native american burial ground & the basement (under our duplex) was a dirt floor & being used as a witches coven. Some very creepy demonic crap happened, like the smell of rotting flesh in the bathroom, a finger trying to puncture my eardrum one night while in bed, & something working its way out of the wall in my closet & then in the living room, leaving holes the size of a large snake. I was so desperate to get us out of there, I moved us into a shelter temporarily til I found a different place for my kids & I. I found it interesting that the duplex was located on Elm Street. Thank God there was no Freddie Krueger who, btw, I have read was a real man.

What if hauntings are actually much more common than most people think? Think for a moment, most start with a simple knock. Many people are quick to dismiss it as the house settling or pipes banging so they never generate the fear or energy that the paranormal activity requires to intensify. So it's never outlandish or overt behavior that garners much attention. Hotels and Apartments are especially because so many people coming and going that a lot of energy passes through, and many noises are simply dismissed as a neighbor tenant. Ask yourself next time you hear something going bump in the night, it might be something far creepier than your rational mind is willing to accept 😉

I share an OLD rental house on farmland (previously a dairy) with a little boy ghost. He died on the property in the driveway when a mild truck for the dairy was backing in to get milk.
I would hear little child like feet running around upstairs with my kitties. Once I even swore I heard a giggle.
The poor truck driver was also rumored to have committed suicide.
Idk if its an urban legend or a story spread by my old landlord but when inlives there I never felt alone or overtly scared.
(I say overtly scared because there was ONE room that I refused to go into. I didn't even like it in the day... it had locks (plural) on the outside of the door.

Most families want you to move the home. This proved to be too costly for us.

This is one of the first signs that a house on the market may be haunted -- if the house is going for way below its true market value. I've heard this story repeatedly: A person or a couple looking for a house finds one that's being sold for way less than is being offered, and after they buy it and renovate it, paranormal things begin to happen. The occurrences get so bad that the buyers move out and never return, and the house is put up for sale again at below-market price to be purchased by the next unsuspecting buyer(s). I view this as a cautionary tale. 👀👹

I saw this a couple of years ago on "The Dead Files." That house is super creepy and I think they ended up getting some sort of medium message that "This is not for the living." Maybe I'm confusing it with another house. But on one episode, a massive flood moved a bunch of graves in a cemetery, which were then moved to another location. After which, the property was sold and a house built upon it, that the 'dead' told the investigators was no place for the living, and would always be a dangerous place for the living.

The house was built that way to take advantage of cross breezes. Old houses can be quite cleverly constructed. I live in one. When the breezes are right, the smells of lilacs and apple blossoms and peonies and all kinds of flowers sweep through the house all day.

Thanks for the great video! I've heard something about this house previously, but not much at all. I've experienced weird paranormal events all of my life, starting when I was very young, so I don't discount the possibility of anything! But, for God's sake, don't go ghost hunting or play with Ouija boards! Leave that to the professionals. There are simply a lot of forces and phenomena that we don't understand!

There was an interesting paper reviewed last year in Fortean Times written for , I believe, The Society for Psychichal Research. It said we needed to be wary of "Professional Ghost Hunters" and their claims that the electronic equipment provides proof of spirit activity.

What the author did say was that something was happening but that it was, as yet, not explainable. So yes, for example, when rempods go off something is occurring which we may not be able to explain but we should not automatically say it is a spirit.

With Ouija boards i refuse to even be in the same room as one. My personal belief is that if a "spirit" can come through the board it can latch onto anyone it sees. I have seen too many movies/tv shows where someone gets a demonic attachment after playing with the board. Not taking any chances

There are many haunted places in Indiana. I grew up in a house that was definitely haunted. I would see apparitions nearly every day, and at least once a year, I would see a redeye demon knocking on my window.

She said the only thing I have to fear on this earth is me. my mom and dad eventually broke up and I went to live with my dad. We moved out into a trailer and then eventually into a home and my mom came back to live with us. My brother seen the same thing in a different house, we moved into. I remember the last time I seen the red eye demon knocking on my window. I went to wake my dad up to get me a glass of water. I thought that it would leave me alone if I had my dad close to me. Eden left the window and it was right in front of my dad. He did not see it. after my dad went to sleep again, I kept on looking into the window at the demon. It kept on knocking. I heard a voice tell me that if I didn’t stand up to it, it would never leave me alone. it felt like electricity was flowing through me, I don’t know if it was fear, or some thing I could not explain, but I eventually stood up in front of it on my bed and flipped it off. It stood there, hovering about 13 foot in the air because its head was at the top of the window. Eventually seen a turn to the right and float off. we only lived in that house for about three years. After we moved out, I went back to visit when another family moved in. It was a few years later, and I was talking to the mother of two children. The two children were in the kitchen, and I was helping my mom paint some trim. all of a sudden, one of the babies got smacked really hard. Nobody was in that room except for a young baby in the crib and another older boy in a walker. The older boy in the walker is the one that got hit, so it wasn’t the baby that smacked him. The mother looked at me in horror and she ran us off so she could take care of her kids, but I’ll never forget the fear I seen in that woman‘s eyes.

The thing about the house being an "upside down cross" when looked at from the east means it's a "right side up" cross from the west. Or it's an odd 'X' when viewed from the side meaning, like everything in life, it's all about how you look at it. To me, that part of the story is reaching. I do think that there's probably residual hauntings just from the history of the house and the land around it.
I do feel bad for the Skinners because I wouldn't want my parent's average (not paranormal) deaths being profited on but at the same time, dude (can't recall his name atm) bought the house, it's his to do with as he pleases.

@Michael L not necessarily. I wouldn't stay in a place that my dad killed himself in, even if he did it because he had cancer. Also we don't know their lives. Maybe they both wanted to leave the town and move somewhere else? Maybe they both found partners and didn't like the house enough to grow a family in. Jumping to the conclusion that they both left because of paranormal activity is a stretch since there's no evidence. People just move sometimes.

I remember when the Fourman brothers went to this place and investigated this house, it was very active. The owners said it makes you angry and want to hurt ppl. You could also hear native music drumming in the distance out back.

An extended family member of mine, in MO, built a church camp thing (it seemed like a cult and my mom distanced from that part of the family after). The family member chose the shape for religious reasons and had tbe construction team build it to allow good airflow. So, it served two purposes in that case.

I think that, regardless, their father committed suicide and suffered Greatly in that house. So many more people died, including, apparently, a child. Believing it’s haunted is Not a stretch, and I’m glad Spinks bought it.

I live in a house that was built in 1880's. My mother purchased it in 1987. She recently died so I'm kinda stuck here. This place is haunted, but only when there's children in residence. A bunch of people have seen her, and my daughter and I were living here in the mid 90's, with the ghost! 🙀

I currently live in a house that was built in the early 1800s, like no later than 1820. There is also a church on the property from the same time. My deeds has it labled as "olde german reform church". I did some work on the house and uncovered structure that is actually logs used to build the original walls. When i first moved in i had very little furniture, little money, no tv, and could not afford cable. For the feel, i woukd read books by candle light or oil lantern. On more than one occasion i would feel some... thing enter the room. It was a very malicious feeling. I have had several peculiar nightmares, and other dreams where i was being attacked by loved ones, or that loved ones have died in odd circumstances. At one point i woke up with burns on the back of my legs and butt cheek. I hear knocks in sets of three, usually right before i wake up for work at 315 am. I have heard loud bangs, have seen things fall scoot and or topple over. I have addressed the entity on a few occasions after i got tired and fed up with the shenanigans. Afterwards there is a deep silence in the air for a few weeks and then the thickness comes back and things start happening again. Not my first experience with the unknown, but the first when i was in my own house alone.

A bit late and probably not as scary as others, but in California I lived in a house where a boy shot and killed himself. He wasn’t a terrible ghost, would just turn on my reading light or turn cartoons on in my room at night. I think I was around his age when we lived there and so he leaned more towards being in my room. I almost drowned when I was younger so I think it may have helped build more of a connection towards him

The odd architecture....it may be practical. In summer, the kitchen can be isolated by doors...and given its own ventilation by closing/opening doors and windows to best advantage. I saw a house built this way, to keep the kitchen from heating up the entire house in summer, a consideration in days before air conditioning.
It's a possibility....my grandparents had a house built this way. It may also be positioned at odd angles to the road to take advantage of wind.
Is it haunted? That's a possibility...

I don't understand why the previous owners thought it was their business that Spinks wrote a book about it. It's his house after all and if people choose to buy the book and believe what he says it's their business. Absolutely no one is being hurt emotionally or financially. We were shown a home that had some small pentagrams and other symbols drawn in some of the rooms on the walls - we said thanks but no thanks. We'd already lived in a haunted apartment in Chicago that seemed more on the evil side. We didn't want to have to deal with a portal being opened.

I believe this land is most likely no good, because of being a sacred burial ground. I do think someone from local tribes should be called in to investigate and bless the land. As far as deaths and family "troubles," all have family secrets and people do die from a variety of causes. Sad and scary story! ❤

this makes me think of something that happened outside a small town in ohio, there was a flood that destroyed an entire small town and the only thing that survived was the cemetery.
edit: after asking my dad, he told me the town was called evansville and it was a windstorm that destroyed the town. sorry for the lapse in memory, but i see the cemetery quite often driving past it and it’s definitely creepy

I'm no weatherman, but my father was. If the house is facing east, and they get a lot of wind that is east/ west it would make sense. Because this way when you get that direct wind, you can open the windows and allow the wind to pass through. I lived in a cabin on a lake and we had a lot of straight line wind that would come straight across the lake, because there were no barriers. However, the house and windows weren't in line with the wind but against it. Twice in the middle of the night, the picture windows blew in; the entire window, casing, etc. So, especially if you're in a really flat area without many trees, you have to think about this.

It's too much of a coincidence of all these things happening, the first family who owned the place might have left a lot of negative energy and with the shape of the place might have added to all the problems which effected others who lives there and over time it just got added onto. This is one potentially haunted house that I'm not able to say definitively could be haunted or not, but defiantly left over negative emotional energy is there as I'm sensitive to stuff like that even in if it's from a photo or video of a place.

I think that Spinx has enough death that happened in the house to explain paranormal activity. It's sad what happened to the Skinners. He shouldn't use their name because the children have explained what really happened there and continuing to use their name proves that he isn't that trustworthy since he's obviously not doing enough research. I bought a 109 year old house in 2009. I never thought it was haunted, and never felt 'weird' about anything there. But my children refused to go down to the basement. One night when my younger daughter was home alone, she said she heard a sharp breath in her ear right before I got home. She was pretty freaked out by that.
I had planned to move / replace it eventually, but several months before we moved, I began hearing loud knocks on my front door. Being an old and probably DIY built home, there was no porch. So the kitchen door went directly outside, with no foyer / second door separating. Also, there was no step, so the kitchen 'sat on' the ground. One night after I'd been in bed for a while, I hear what sounded like somewhat frantic rapping on that door, the way a police officer might knock when issuing a warrant. So, I slowly went downstairs to investigate. There was no one there by the time I got downstairs.
On a different night, I was in my living room which was immediately adjacent to the kitchen, and heard similar knocking, around 11:00 p.m. I got up to see who the heck was knocking at that time of night, worried it would be some neighbor having an episode (our next door neighbor apparently had some mental health issues). In the minute or less it took me to move my craft supplies off my lap and walk over to open the door, I saw no one. I have a good view from that door of my yard and down the street. Nobody. I looked around the yard and over at my neighbors....quiet as a mouse. That was the first time that I starting wondering what was going on.

I have been to estates, and homes, and hospital rooms where people have died. Although we (my mom and I) were not the least bit interested in the property, often the dead or dying would talk to me. I learned how to read and write by age 5, I have had to 'see' the those in the morgue, in a building, outside in a field, etc.! I have no way to prove this. Those involved with contacting my mom, etc., are long dead.

Noone should be surprised, that u can't live "peacefully" in a house built upon burial grounds. Damn! That literally takes just a smidge of brain activity to figure that out.😳

Yeah I don't think they were aware of it at first. But definitely not a good idea to build up on a battleground or a burial mound!

The point is, if it's known as burial grounds, u simply respect it. Not knowing is understandable, but I'm pretty sure they knew about it.

I live near Alton and Cahokia Illinois, both considered very haunted. Cahokia is also known for the Native American mounds in the area.

I was born in a haunted house...no one but immediate family would stay on the place after dark. It had once been Cherokee land, fought over between Cherokee and Creek for a long time...we were always finding arrowheads and other small things, especially after heavy storms...the land was all hills and hollers but rich, thickly wooded with very big trees, crisscrossed with little streams and small creeks...there were springs...water was plentiful and so was game. So, no wonder it had been fought over so fiercely. We were a mixed family...mostly Irish American, some Cherokee...and we loved that place like it was a mother to us. I was never afraid. Though doors opened and closed on their own...bolts drawn back...door knobs turning...bolts sliding back into place...I felt safe. Latches would lift from the shutters, and they would open, then the windows...they were heavy enough it wasn't something a draft could do...but I felt safe. As long as I was in my house, I was safe and happy...protected...content. Only when my mother and father divorced and they took me away from my home...and my mother changed with terrifying rapidity, her mental and physical health both never the same...that my life fell apart. What I suffered in the city she took us to...would be a long tale and a darker one than I feel equal to relating tonight...I've told it elsewhere, commenting about what happens to children when the parent they trusted turns on them...but during those first months there I dreamed of my home every night and for a long time I would wake to find my face and pillow wet with tears.

My haunted home kept me safe...it was only when I left it that I knew sorrow and fear. I remember every inch of the place, where it stood on a hill, an old house built in the early 1800's with a big porch and a massive black walnut tree on one side...our pastures and barn a little way from the house...fields beyond them...and surrounding all of it trees as far as the eye could see...everything in summer a deep, impossible green.
I see it so clearly in my memories, I know it like a song and I love it still.

And sometimes, in my dreams, I go there. I go home.

I know the nostalgia one can feel for a haunted place. I lived in apartments that used to be a hotel built in 1906. The only disturbing spirit lived in the elevator shaft, the rest was just like nice people watching over you. It was torn down in the late 90s. I still dream about it sometimes.

I had a great aunt who was eaten by her hogs. In Morgan County Indiana. She turned ill and was hospitalized for a month or so. During that time her husband passed away and there was nobodyto feed the hogs. She got better and returned home. Went to feed her starving hogs and somehow ended up in the hog bin and they ate all of her. I believe some clothing was found on a fence post and her hair and teeth were discovered....

personally, while I do believe in ghosts, I think calling Willows Weep any degree of “more haunted” seems sensationalist. Like other comments have said, the design seems to be more for the purpose of a cross-breeze, it’s only “upside down” if you look at it from one specific angle, and even if you put those aside, a lot of houses that old have deaths in the family. It sounded like a run of the mill house history if you look at a lot of historic houses. Why a place like this would be more haunted than say a plantation seems like stretching things to fit a more haunted narrative. Do I think there are spirits there? Probably, but nothing malicious. After all, the dead aren’t any more or less cruel than they were in life, and none of these sound like cruel people. Best to follow the wishes of living relatives of the dead and let them rest.

I just discovered your channel. Your videos are very good. I have experienced some form of the paranormal my whole life from a very young age. I’m not a professional but I have researched into it for myself to understand myself better. I trust my senses and instinct. With that, as far as this video of this area my thoughts are as follows. First there is more than one thing going on here. It’s hallowed ground. The history of Native American Indians either living or buried there. Their spiritual beliefs are very strong. Second, was this also a battle ground with Indians fighting to keep their land against those who took it from them. Just think about the atrocities that happened to the Native American Indians. Third, the man who built the house on this hallowed ground , but built it into a cross type shape for whatever reason may or may not have anything to do with the paranormal activity going on there. The possibility of the crimes committed inside this house would add to the negativity of that house. So, yes, I believe it is just a serious haunting by several unhappy spirits and no one is truly listening to them. That includes the professional paranormal investigator. He’s written a book, so obviously he wants to profit from the book. He may genuinely care though. My thoughts are that the unhappy spirits that dwell in this place want to be left alone. I also think that there would be peace if the house were torn down and that whole area left alone. Either that or maybe a medium and a strong spiritual person could bring some kind of peace to this house. It would take someone truly gifted to truly speak to the spirits there to find out what they truly want to bring peace. I usually don’t use any man made items to speak to them. This is what I sense just from watching this video. Very strong feelings and thoughts I am receiving. I’m definite on what I sense and I’d know more if I were to visit this place. These are just my thoughts. Thank you for this video. I’ll be watching more of your channel.

The ancients Romans had a saying: Nomen est Omen ( The name is a sign/ omen) ; Willows's weep is a gloomy name and the presence of real willows trees ( associated with ghosts, death and supernatural) add more weird features to the place.

When I was a kid my parents bought our house. In the basement was a coffin table and while making the man cave we found an old home made Ouija board in the wall. There is a hole in the back of the basement we live in coal mining country and miners would often dig their own coal. In there we found many steel grave markers. Some from the late 1800s. We have no idea why this stuff was there but that board is still there in the wall. My dad thought it was best not to mess with it. House is beautiful but spooky in the night. I grew up there and I miss the place but not the weird noises or electronics turning on by themselves. My mother had a priest come to bless the place and had put night lights and crosses in every upstairs room. They no longer use the upstairs area except for storage but the lights are still on.
