All Kinds
Wilson Dan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Makes the boys want to give up running all around
You know the kind of magic spell
Makes the wild, wild horses lay down on the ground
[Chorus]
Running all around all around
All kinds of beautiful
All kinds of beautiful
One life is all we ever get
And all we ever give up for it in return
Is all of the ones we might have been
Just one kind of beautiful each in our turn
Innocence and consequence
I only hope we never learn
[Chorus]
Hey now, every little thing you gave to me
Made the time pass faster than my eyes could even see
You are true improbability
You're the proof of when they say
You never know what's gonna be
[Chorus: x2]
All kinds
in Wilson Dan's song "All Kinds" is a tribute to the beauty found in all types of women. The song starts by talking about a particular kind of beauty possessed by the woman that makes men want to stop chasing other women. The chorus repeats the phrase "All kinds of beautiful," emphasizing the message of the song.
The second verse talks about how we only have one life to live, and we should make the most of it by being ourselves and celebrating our unique beauty. The singer says that we give up all the other versions of ourselves to be the person we are today. The line "Just one kind of beautiful each in our turn" shows that we are all beautiful in our own unique way.
The final verse is a direct tribute to the woman the singer is addressing. He thanks her for making time fly by and being someone he never could have predicted. He says she's an improbability, and that's why no one can ever know what's going to be.
Overall, the song celebrates the beauty of diversity and individuality. It promotes the idea that everyone is beautiful in their own way, and no two people are exactly alike.

Dan is a testament to the great Minneapolis sound in the late 80's/early 90s and beyond. Such an incredible singer/songwriter. The raw emotion within his voice is something that can't be taught. His entire catalog from Trip Shakespeare to more recent co-writes (ie. When the Stars come out on Chris Stapleton's Traveller album) resonate so strongly with lyrical emotion. Good stuff.

Love this version! I think it blows away the more popular version. Orchestration and the male tenor are just killers. Inspiring to us songwriters. Thanks.

Their paychecks make up for it. Also, your average Joe may not know them, but the artists you idolise will know them very well, so will their managers, agents, labels.
