Their music style is rooted in indie rock and has ambient and occasional shoegaze elements. Performances have been described as "entirely honest" and "deeply moving" with "captivating ambiance". While playing live, the band attempts to make the listener as much a part of the music as the band themselves by encouraging everyone to sing along.
They were nominated for two Juno Awards of 2008 and took home one of them: Alternative Album of the Year, and New Group of the Year (which they won).

Wintersleep Lyrics

crumpled up the paragraphs so that
I could fit it in my mouth
the words you said
That you were meant for
that despite everything you said before
I'm still in your head
And I love you more
More than I said
More than I ever felt before
I love you more
More than I said
More than I ever felt before
I wrote you back
that I'd be back for
wish I could cut inside your brain
so I could see what it looks like inside your head
What do you dream of?
Rivers and streams, love?
These violent dreams chug through my seams
And I love you more
More than I said then
More than I said
More than I ever felt before
And I love you more
More than I said
More than I ever felt before
And I love you more
More than I said
More than I ever felt before
And I love you more
More than I said
More than I ever felt before
I love you more (I love you more)
More than I said (More than I said)
More than I said (More than I said)
More than I ever felt before
I love you more (I love you more)
More than I said (More than I said)
More than I said (More than I ever felt before)
I love you more (I love you more)
More than I said (More than I said)
More than I said (More than I ever felt before)
I love you more (I love you more)
More than I said (More than I said)
More than I said (More than I ever felt before)
I love you more (I love you more)
More than I said (More than I said)
More than I said (More than I ever felt before)
In Wintersleep's song More Than, the singer is reading a letter that they received from someone they love. The letter expresses the idea that despite having said otherwise before, the singer is still on the mind of the person who wrote the letter. The singer crumples up the letter and puts it in their mouth, perhaps symbolizing their desire to consume and absorb the words of the person they love. In their response to the letter, the singer wishes they could "cut inside [the other person's] brain" to understand their thoughts and dreams.
The song is a reflection on love and the ways in which it can be difficult to express. The singer loves the other person more than they said or felt before. The repetition of the phrase "More than I said" emphasizes the idea that the singer may have struggled to express the full extent of their feelings for the other person. The violent dreams that "chug through [the singer's] seams" may symbolize the intensity of their emotions, which are difficult to contain.
Overall, More Than is a song about the complexities of love and the ways in which it can inspire conflicting emotions. The singer loves the other person deeply, but struggles to express this love fully. The song's use of vivid imagery and repetition creates a sense of intense emotion and longing.
