Killing Floor
Wolf Lyrics

I should have quit you, babe, long time ago
I should have quit you, and went on to Mexico
If I had-a followed my first mind
If I had-a followed my first mind
I'd been gone, since my second time
I shoulda went on, when my friend come from Mexico at me
But no, I was foolin' with ya, baby, I let ya put me on the killin' floor
Lord knows, I shoulda been gone
Lord knows, I shoulda been gone
And I wouldn't have been here, down on the killin' floor
Yeah
The lyrics of Wolf Howlin's song Killing Floor talk about a man who regrets not leaving his lover sooner. He acknowledges that he should have followed his instincts and left a long time before, instead of continuing to fool around with his lover. The repeated line "I should have quit you, a long time ago" highlights his deep regret and hindsight. The lyric "I let ya put me on the killin' floor" refers to feeling trapped in a toxic relationship, where he feels vulnerable and in danger. The song speaks to the consequences of staying in a destructive relationship for too long.
Overall, the lyrics present a feeling of sadness and regret for not following one's intuition. As the song progresses, the mood becomes more and more somber as the man realizes he is stuck on the "killin' floor" and should have left ages ago. The song is a classic blues tune, with a masterful vocal performance by Wolf Howlin that conveys the depth of feeling contained in the lyrics.

The monster. Howling Wolf was the monster of Rock ‘N Roll. A genius, and the greatest blues singer of all time. Just ask any British group, especially Eric Clapton and that blues cover band called Led Zeppelin. Shame on this 135 who gave this man a thumbs down. Why?
