1) Wolves (rooted in emo hardcore of the early to mid nineties) was first conceived in early 2000 by Brad Wallace and Tim Glowik. In the Fall of 2001 the band really got going with the line up of Tim Glowik, Brad Wallace, Erik Hopp, and Andy Skelly. In their four year existence they released one album (Art.Culture.Work) an ep (Simulation.Transparency.Alienation) as well as two split 7" with Ampere and Sinaloa, and a 12" split with Transistor Transistor. Wolves decided to part ways due to geographic hardship and members growing in different directions creatively. Wolves played two last shows on January 30th, and 31st of 2004 in Amherst, and Boston, MA.
"Wolves records were often to be taken as a visual representation as much as a musical representation and influences were drawn from Avant-Garde art movements and 60's radicals as much as they were drawn from musical peers. Not afraid to challenge themselves and attempt to mix theory with practice, Wolves songs never repeated themselves and were decidedly unique whether in failure or success."

Wolves Lyrics

Purge this Planet - erase them all
Let us prais this new born star
A new world dawns - Dystopia
Vorwärts! In den Untergang!
Five brings redemption - Take control
Everlasting peace - the end of war
Follow the new order - Dystopia
Vorwärts! In den Untergang!
Children of this planet
Welcome this new day
Let us build a nation
Of sorrow and decay
Children of this era
Your future will be bleek
I offer you the emptiness
Which you seek
Vorwärts! In den Untergang!
The lyrics to Wolves's song "Era" paint a dystopian picture of a world in chaos, where hope is fading and a new order is being established. The opening lines suggest a sense of impending doom, as clouds gather and hope falls. The idea of purging the planet and erasing all that existed before implies a desire to start fresh, to create a new beginning free from the mistakes and sins of the past. There is a sense of reverence towards this new era represented by a new star, but it is also clear that this new world will be a dystopia, a society marked by suffering and oppression.
The chorus of the song, with the repeated line "Vorwärts! In den Untergang!" (Forward! Into the downfall!), emphasizes a sense of inevitability, as if the listener is being urged to embrace the destruction that is coming. The lyrics speak of redemption through taking control and seeking a "Nuclear Salvation" to save one's soul. The promise of everlasting peace and the end of war is paradoxically tied to following a new order that leads to dystopia, highlighting the seductive nature of power and control even in the face of destruction.
The song then addresses the children of the planet, inviting them to welcome this new day of sorrow and decay. The lyrics suggest a twisted form of nation-building based on emptiness and bleakness, offering a future devoid of true fulfillment or joy. The children of this era are warned that the path ahead will be one of hardship and despair, as they are enticed with the false promise of the emptiness they seek. The repeated chant of "Vorwärts! In den Untergang!" serves as a haunting reminder of the march towards inevitable downfall and the destruction of all that was once known.
Overall, the lyrics of "Era" by Wolves paint a bleak and unsettling vision of a society on the brink of collapse, where the allure of power and control leads to the acceptance of a dystopian reality. The song serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of blindly following destructive ideologies and the consequences of embracing a future marked by emptiness and decay. Through its apocalyptic imagery and chilling chants, the song leaves a lasting impression of a world teetering on the edge of destruction, urging listeners to reflect on the consequences of their actions and the choices they make in shaping the world around them.
