sometimes christmas is hard
Wrabel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It′s getting cold and the fire's getting warmer
Atop the tree, there′s a star
Yeah, I know it's the happiest season
But sometimes Christmas is hard

On the streets, saw some people, they were singing
Holding candles in the dark
There could be 'bout a million different reasons
Sometimes Christmas is hard

If you lost someone and the empty chair reminds you
You can′t be yourself with your family around you
I just hope this helps and I promise you are not alone

All the gifts put in boxes wrapped in ribbon
Your name is written on the card
But some things in life, you can′t be given
Yeah, sometimes Christmas is hard

If you lost someone and the empty chair reminds you
You can't be yourself with your family around you
I just hope this helps and I promise you are not alone

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you
Merry Christmas

If you lost someone and the empty chair reminds you

You can′t be yourself with your family around you
I just hope this helps and I promise you are not alone

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Wrabel's song "Sometimes Christmas is Hard" are a poignant reflection of the complexity of emotions that can arise during the holiday season. The imagery of the fire getting warmer and the star atop the tree conveys the cozy and cheerful atmosphere associated with Christmas. However, the lyrics also acknowledge that not everyone experiences a joyful holiday season, as the chorus repeats the phrase "sometimes Christmas is hard."

The second verse describes seeing people singing and holding candles in the dark, highlighting the idea of finding light in the midst of darkness. Even though there could be "a million different reasons" why someone might find Christmas difficult, the song offers hope and solidarity through the lines "I just hope this helps and I promise you are not alone."

The bridge of the song speaks to the pain of losing someone, which can be particularly painful during the holiday season. The empty chair serves as a poignant symbol of absence and reminds the listener that Christmas can be especially difficult when shared with family. The song ultimately seeks to provide comfort and support to those struggling during the holiday season.

Christmas and my birthday (about a week after) are the hardest time of year for me. I love my family, my brothers and my parents are the biggest think that's pulled me back from the edge so many times knowing what it would do to them.. but they are also the biggest reason that I can't be my true self, which is the thing that puts me in those dark places to begin with. Social anxiety always leaves me drained and shaking after family gatherings but each year I put on that mask and smile for them as much as I can manage. As much pain as I may be in I can't bear to hurt them by letting it show. Thank you for reminding me that I'm not alone
