Und riss sie aus tiefem Schlaf
Die Stimme war ihr fremd
Doch sie legte nicht gleich auf
Sie hörte nur ein Flüstern
Verzweifelt und atemlos
Ich weiß nicht wie’s weiter geht
Was mach ich bloß
Es schlägt ein brennendes Herz
Irgendwo in der Stadt
Gefangen in der Einsamkeit
Verlorener Träume
Uh oh
Es schlägt ein brennendes Herz
Irgendwo gar nicht weit
Und es verglüht an unerfüllter Zärtlichkeit
Sie sprachen stundenlang
Über Gott und die Welt
Und sie spürte reden ist
Was ihn noch am Leben hält
Und als die Sonne aufging
Da sagte er irgendwann
Ruf ich dich vielleicht mal wieder an
Es schlägt ein brennendes Herz
Irgendwo in der Stadt
Gefangen in der Einsamkeit
Verlorener Träume
Uh oh
Es schlägt ein brennendes Herz
Irgendwo gar nicht weit
Und es verglüht an unerfüllter Zärtlichkeit
Es schlägt ein brennendes Herz
Irgendwo in der Stadt
Gefangen in der Einsamkeit
Verlorener Träume
Uh oh
Es schlägt ein brennendes Herz
Irgendwo gar nicht weit
Und es verglüht an unerfüllter Zärtlichkeit
Es schlägt ein brennendes Herz
Irgendwo in der Stadt
Gefangen in der Einsamkeit
Verlorener Träume
Uh oh
Es schlägt ein brennendes Herz
Irgendwo gar nicht weit
Und es verglüht an unerfüllter Zärtlichkeit
The lyrics of Xanadu's song "Brennendes Herz" tell a poignant story of love, longing, and the complexities of human emotions. The opening verse describes a late-night phone call that interrupts someone's deep slumber. The caller's voice is unfamiliar, yet the recipient doesn't immediately hang up. Instead, she listens to the whispered words of desperation and breathlessness, pleading for guidance on what to do next. This sets the tone for a narrative that delves into the themes of uncertainty and vulnerability.
The chorus of the song highlights the central motif of a "brennendes Herz" (burning heart) resonating somewhere in the city. This burning heart is metaphorical, symbolizing a soul trapped in loneliness and the ache of unrealized dreams. The repetition of the phrase emphasizes the intensity of this emotional turmoil experienced by the singer and perhaps by others around them. The contrast between the vivid imagery of a burning heart and the cold reality of unfulfilled tenderness adds depth to the lyrical exploration of love's complexities.
As the narrative unfolds, the lyrics depict a deep conversation between the caller and the recipient that lasts for hours. They discuss existential topics and personal struggles, with the recipient realizing that talking is what keeps the caller going. There is a sense of connection and empathy shared between these two individuals, despite the physical distance between them. The mention of a potential future call hints at the possibility of continued communication and the bond formed through shared vulnerability.
The repeated refrain of the burning heart's presence in the city underscores the pervasive nature of emotional struggles and unmet desires. The burning heart serves as a unifying symbol of longing and isolation, reflecting the universal experience of yearning for connection and understanding. The lyrics evoke a sense of melancholy and introspection, drawing listeners into the inner world of the characters and inviting them to contemplate the complexities of love, loss, and the search for meaning. Ultimately, "Brennendes Herz" captures the timeless theme of human longing and the quest for emotional fulfillment amidst the chaos of modern life.

Fantastic eurodisco/schlager track. Music by Tony Hendrik and lyrics by Bernd Meinunger. It's similar to Bad Boys Blue's sound from 80's.
