Simmons was born, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was raised in a home with his mother, his cousins and his aunt. Simmons attended Clay-Chalkville High School in Clay, Alabama, though dropped out following the success of "Rubbin off The Paint ;"he graduated in May 2018.
Simmons interest in music started when he was fourteen years old and was gifted an Xbox 360 for Christmas. Simmons began to play the video game Rock Band (which he would later use to record his first song.) and eventually moved to playing Grand Theft Auto V and then started recording gameplay videos where he would generate a following on YouTube. During his time playing Grand Theft Auto V, Simmons would freestyle in Xbox Live parties and alongside numerous other friends, established the Young Boss N****s collective.
Simmons formed the hip hop collective YBN (an Acronym for Young Boss N****s) in Birmingham, Alabama in 2014 composed by him, Almighty Jay, Cordae, YBN Glizzy, his cousin YBN Manny, YBN Walker, YBN Nicky Baandz, YBN Malik, YBN Carl and YBN Dayday.
Simmons uploaded his first song onto YouTube when he was fifteen with a old fellow YBN member, Almighty Jay. The song, titled "Hood Mentality" was uploaded on March 21, 2015, to barely any reception. Simmons uploaded several more songs to YouTube before releasing his first mixtape on January 2, 2017, titled Believe In The Glo on SoundCloud. Simmons released "Rubbin off The Paint" on September 18, 2017, to WorldStarHipHop's YouTube channel. The song debuted at 79 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at 46.
In November 2017, Simmons was involved in controversy following his song being claimed by a record label after his manager sold the instrumental for the song to a third-party. In response, Simmons now has an in-house producer for his instrumentals who is a member of the YBN collective. Simmons released six more tracks in 2017.
On January 23, 2018, Simmons released "Bounce out with That" on Lyrical Lemonade's YouTube channel. The song wasn't available on streaming services for up to three days after the release of the music video. The song has accumulated over 159 million views on YouTube after its release.

The lyrics to YBN Nahmir's song "Her" contain various themes, such as flexing wealth and success, enjoying life's pleasures, and asserting dominance. The song also emphasizes the individual's ability to attract and have control over women.
In the first verse, Nahmir highlights his luxurious lifestyle by mentioning putting the roof (presumably of a convertible car) in the trunk to make heads turn. He credits his producer, Khao, for creating a beat that captivates listeners. He claims to have given his contemporaries a sense of style and swagger, causing them to imitate him. Nahmir states that he doesn't mind sharing women with others, as he enjoys spending time in the club and having fun with them.
Moving onto the second verse, Nahmir refers to himself as "Big Guwop," paying homage to the renowned rapper Gucci Mane. He boasts about his crew carrying guns as if it were legal, referencing his toughness and readiness for any situation. He compares his skills and intelligence to those of the legendary Robin Hood, claiming to be a genius with a sinister side. Nahmir's high-end cars and expensive accessories attract attention, even causing women to develop arachnophobia due to the presence of so many diamond-covered spiders. He also hints at his ability to make women do his bidding with a single phone call.
The third verse delves into the struggles some face in poverty-stricken environments. Nahmir acknowledges the possibility of resorting to crime instead of getting a regular job to ensure survival. He emphasizes the importance of having options and diversifying one's lifestyle. Nahmir shares stories of his friends involved in criminal activities, even going as far as having a friend on the run after committing a crime. He mentions his penchant for expensive jewelry and material wealth, expressing his disinterest in getting into fights and preferring short-term relationships.
The fourth and final verse focuses on Nahmir's rap career and his progression from a humble lifestyle to his current success. He mentions his ability to accumulate wealth and influence, stating that he loves how racks of money stack up. Nahmir asserts his status as a trendsetter while calling out those who try to copy his style. He refers to himself as a "rusty bang" when confronted with lame individuals, implying his readiness to take action against them. Despite his rise to fame, Nahmir claims he has not changed as a person and remains humble, loyal to his friends, and willing to protect his crew.
The outro, performed by Tabius Tate, reiterates that being in a committed relationship does not restrain or define someone's worth or identity. It promotes freedom and autonomy while suggesting that being handcuffed or tied down is inconsequential.
Overall, the lyrics to "Her" showcase YBN Nahmir's confidence, wealth, and influence, while also touching on his experiences growing up and his complex relationships with women.
