Rescue Me
Y & T Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She was gone and I couldn't take it
I was looking for a new way of thinkin'
When I go to sleep, I pray I wouldn't wake up
Well, I want you, I want you to rescue me
The wheel kept turning, but I stood still
Did I play to win or did I win to loose
Of all the cards I had to draw the fool
All people tellin' me about things I do
The more I hear, the less I see the truth
Oh, well, I'm on the edge, I can't look down
Oh, slippin', slippin', slippin' oh, help
I want you to rescue me, oh, rescue me
Oh, you know I want you
I want you to rescue me, oh, rescue me
A voice faintly callin' from another time
Oh so strange, it sounds like mine
Shades of black and a twisted road
And I can't see the sky from here
Oh, do I turn around? I go straight ahead
I can't stop now, I find the light somewhere
Oh, well, I'm on the edge, I can't look down
Oh, slippin', slippin', slippin', oh, help
I want you to rescue me, oh, rescue me
You know I want you
I want you to rescue me, oh, rescue me
I want you, I want you to rescue me, oh, rescue me
Oh, you know I want you
I want you to rescue me, oh, rescue me
Oh, you know I want you
I want you to rescue me
Oh, rescue me
Oh, rescue me, oh, rescue me
In this song, the singer is struggling with sadness and depression after their partner left them. They are looking for a way to escape their negative thoughts and emotions but are unable to find it on their own. In their desperation, they turn to someone they love and trust, asking them to "rescue" them from their pain. The lyrics are filled with the feeling of hopelessness and the desperate need for someone to save them from their own despair.
The first verse of the song portrays the singer's state of depression and despair. They are barely getting by and cannot bear the absence of their partner. The second verse talks about the singer's inner conflict; they are unsure whether their actions are leading them to victory or defeat. The lyrics also reveal how the singer has lost touch with reality and can no longer recognize the truth.
The third verse depicts the singer's journey towards freedom from depression. They describe hearing a voice that sounds like their own, and it urges them to keep going in the midst of the darkness. The singer is on the brink of giving up, but they cannot turn back either. Finally, they reach out to someone they trust and ask them to "rescue" them from their pain.
Overall, the song is a poignant reminder of the power of love and the need for human connection. In our darkest moments, we all need someone to lift us up and guide us towards the light.

Those of us who grew up in the 80's are getting old, but damn it, we had the best music. Saw these guys at the Concord Pavilion (CA) in the mid-80's. Everyone was stoned and cool, no bombs or mass shootings or crazy shit. Those were great times.

Saw Y & T about half a dozen times in the 80’s at Sherwood Hall in Salinas, Ca. Always a great time. Stellar band Leonard Haze was a close second to Bonham on the drums. 🤙🏽

Unless you've seen these guys live you have no idea how good they are. Dave gave me shots from his wild turkey bottle. The whole band are great unassuming guys. I told Dave I was a fan from the yesterday and today era and he handed me his bottle. Damn, never forget it
