Ya Boy was given his name by his cousin Bailey, and was helped to develop into a rap artist by his other cousin San Quinn. In the Summer of 2005, Ya Boy released his first solo mixtape, Future of The Franchise, and it sold 10,000 copies in the first month alone. This was to be followed up by his debut album, Rookie of the Year. His album features E-40, Turf Talk, Clyde Carson of The Team, San Quinn and more. The first single off the album was produced by Rick Rock and is titled "Step Ya Game Up."
In 2006, Ya Boy began an affiliation with The Black Wall Street. The Game took him under his wing and the two began to network. His affiliation with Game brought him a step higher in the rap game, as he began to collaborate with big name producers such as JR Rotem, Nu Jerzey Devil and Scott Storch to name a few. Pop star Britney Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline, aka [artist[K-Fed[/artist], called upon Ya Boy's talent for writing, and had him ghost write for his debut album Playing With Fire.
Ya Boy makes a cameo appearance in the 1996 crime film Mad Dog Time.

In Ya Boy's song "Murdah," the rapper begins by proclaiming himself as a lyrical assassin, tired of hearing other rappers' mediocre rhymes. He uses aggressive language to describe his rap skills, saying he is like OJ Simpson when he rips his rhymes apart. He even likens himself to a murderer, stating that he is murdering the verses and that everyone listening is a witness. The lyrics continue to describe Ya Boy as the sickest rapper on the scene, even comparing him to Michael Jordan as the greatest of all time. He describes leaving his competition in shambles as he rips them apart like they are Wrigley's gum on the ground. The chorus repeats the phrase "there's been a murdah here," further emphasizing his dominance in the rap game.
Ya Boy goes on to describe his violent tendencies, saying he wears a mask, black gloves, and holds duct tape. He talks about catching rappers off-guard and even running into their studio sessions to attack. Despite this aggressive language, Ya Boy asserts that he is not a copycat, stating that he is "original," not a biter like some other rappers. He doesn't care whether or not his music is played on the radio as long as he can attract a following and drive a Mercedes. The lyrics end by reiterating that Ya Boy is a killer in the rap game, always ready to take on challengers.
Overall, "Murdah" is a powerful song that showcases Ya Boy's skills as a rapper while highlighting the aggressive nature of hip hop music. The lyrics are full of violent language and boasts about his skills, which could be seen as controversial to some listeners. However, the song's catchy chorus and infectious beat make it enjoyable to anyone who appreciates a good rap song.
