Well, the kids are all hopped up and ready to go
Ready to go now
Got their surfboards
Gone to the discotheque, a go, go

But she just couldn't stay
She had to break away
New York City really has it all
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Sheena is a punk rocker, Sheena is a punk rocker
Sheena is a punk rocker, now
Sheena is a punk rocker, Sheena is a punk rocker
Sheena is a punk rocker, now

Well, she's a punk, punk, a punk rocker
Punk, punk, a punk rocker
Punk, punk, a punk rocker
Punk, punk, punk rocker

Well, the kids are all hopped up and ready to go
Ready to go now
Got their surfboards
Gone to the discotheque, a go, go

But she just couldn't stay
She had to break away
New York City really has it all
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

Sheena is a punk rocker, Sheena is a punk rocker
Sheena is a punk rocker, now

Overall Meaning

The song "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker" by Yeah Yeah Yeahs (cover of The Ramones' song) speaks about a girl named Sheena who is a punk rocker. However, Sheena couldn't stay and had to break away from the norms. Also, the lyrics highlight how New York City has everything for everyone to explore.

Overall, the idea of the song is to portray Sheena as a rebel who breaks away from the regular societal norms to pursue her passion for punk rock. Being in the punk rock scene during those times was very different from what was accepted in society. The song shows that Sheena is an independent woman who doesn't follow what's popular and instead follows her heart.

@kmacmuzikmafia27

Wow, this is one of the only cover videos that commenters are actually accepting of. Usually they get all uptight and defensive, but the majority seems to love the Yeah Yeah Yeah's version just as much as the Ramones. Me too.

@theboywhodestroyed24

man being punk isn't being a mohawk person you know its just about standing out in the crowd and having the gut to stick with your own style! thats being punk :D
