Cohen grew up in Houston, Texas, and while the Texas of his teens may have been home to Big Oil, Enron, the Bush family, and the drab grey Astros jerseys of the 90′s, he prefers to think of it as the Texas of yore- home to Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, the Space Program, and rainbow orange Astros jerseys. It stands to reason, then, that his current home of New York City must be the mythical Empire City – Rocky Mountains of architecture, epicenter of modern art, home to Charles Mingus and The Velvet Underground.

It was with these timeless inspirations in mind that Cohen created The Color by Yellowbirds, his “solo” debut. Double-speed auto-harp glissandos, glowing backwards pedal-steel, bubbling echo and fuzz guitars coalesce into a warm wall of sound. As existential lyrical themes emerge, delivered nonchalantly over psyched-out aural landscapes, the picture emerges of a dust-blown, 4th dimensional Future West. This is Cohen’s quixotic world where “only the purist tones can be heard.”

Regarding the vehicle scene at the end, a similar thing happened to my platoon while I was in Iraq. Vehicle sped at us while we were on the street, and we did the whole 'gesture, show, shoot a warning shot' escalation to try to get him to stop or veer away. He kept coming and my buddies lit his car up. It turned out that the driver was an idiot and that he wasn't trying to blow us up with a VBIED. Miraculously, he wasn't even injured despite the wall of lead that got sent his way.

Enlisted ranks would be Private, Specialist, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, etc. Officers would be called Sir, ranks such as Lieutenant, Captin, Major, and so on. Enlisted take it as an insult, cause enlisted do the heavy lifting. Officer are like managers, doing a lot of admin desk type work, and giving orders. An old saying that you might hear if you call a Sergeant Sir is, "Sir? Do I look like an officer, I WORK for a living." But if a civilian calls an enlisted Sir they won't say anything as they don't know.

Ha, well said. Most people think they can tell where gun fire is coming from. When they've never experienced gun fire... Woods or urban you really can't tell until the rounds are skipping near you. Your brain is too busy thinking, is that really gun shots. But if I were living in a war zone. Stop and get out of the vehicle to ascertain the general vicinity and go the opposite direction

During the 3d ACR's first deployment to Iraq ('03-04) we all used iron sights. I wasn't with the 3d ACR for their second deployment, but the 3d ACR's second deployment to Iraq was '05-06. I don't know what they had, but you're asking about the wrong years. That being said, this movie has Soldier's calling an NCO sir, someone wearing a PT shirt under a BDU top, and an Iraqi frontal assualt on a FOB... so I would expect they also got a ton else wrong.

I can see both sides to the car thing. One is people maybe fleeing and this is the only say in and out. But at the same time cars have been known to have bombs strapped inside and used against soldiers. The mg gunner didnt want to take that chance of more men dying. Both cases is a very frustrating and shitty situation that sucks no matter what
