The moniker 'Rising Force' came to prominence on March 5, 1984 at the release of the album of the same name, distributed through Polydor Records. Malmsteen's band featured a mix of instrumental songs and energetic metal tracks, with Jeff Scott Soto notably on vocals, and became a critical and commercial success. In particular, Malmsteen's band was nominated for 'Best Rock Instrumental Performance' at the 1986 Grammy Awards. While the reception of their work waxed and waned throughout the 80s, they still earned a considerable fan response.

I Am a Viking
Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I've got death upon my mind
As I was leavin' oh yesterday
I've got no fear in my heart
As the shores of my home disappear
I sail over the sea without fear
Dragon ships are charging through the waves
I am a warrior my mind is set to kill
Life or death is on the line
I am a slayer and you will taste my steel
I've got your life right in my hand
As the shores of my home disappear
I sail over the sea without fear
Dragon ships are charging through the waves
Just want to sail away into the sea yeah yeah
You are a loser and it's such a shame
That you're a fool and you don't know
That in a viking I'll walk all over you
And by my sword you will die
As the shores of my home disappear
I sail over the sea without fear
Dragon ships are charging through the waves
Just want to sail away into the sea yeah yeah

One of the most original savage players ever. You cannot deny this man’s picking, legato, vibrato and tone. All of it is perfect

I just saw it a few days ago. What a great interview. Yngwie is open and forthcoming with zero ego. Rick just did an interview with the STP bassist that is equally as fantastic. This new interview angle is perfect

I really didn't like him when I was a newborn 17 years old, my boyfriend introduce me to him, I saw him as an egotistical person, but as I have progressed and tried to be competent on guitar and music, I have learned that this man it a wonder of the world.

One of the best musical pieces of all time. One day it will be considered classical and it should. Tackling the mindset of world altering forces in a critical time in history. Plus the absolute best instrumental work and the vocals are sublime.

Agreed, I blast it driving in my car. Jeff kills it in the vocals, yngwie outstanding as always, the whole band ❤️🔥
@IronMaidenPwnz
I think this may be the greatest song ever crafted. Yngwie is the best guitarist of all time, so there's that. The riffs are killer the solos are incredible. The singer is outstanding and lyrics are badass.
