The band's drummer, Aaron Stern, recalls the few minutes preceding the blaze: "We were actually mid-argument about releasing new music on our own when the tire initially blew. After we watched the van burn up, we kind of took it as a sign to get our tails in the studio." You, Me, and Everyone We Know then quickly enlisted the services of producer Josh Cain (of Motion City Soundtrack) and made plans to begin recording in Minneapolis days after ending a tour with the city's own Sing It Loud. So, the band picked itself back up, made the trek to Minnesota, and began recording an EP they would aptly name, So Young, So Insane.
You, Me, and Everyone We Know continues to draw from similar influences on their latest effort, though the band doesn't deny growing a little over the last two years. "The core of this band is definitely still here," says guitarist Noel Milford. "I think no matter kind of feel a song has, you're definitely going to know it's us playing it."
Things are changing for You, Me, and Everyone We Know, with So Young, So Insane set to be released on November 18th, a full U.S. Tour in November and December, and an attitude that anything CAN and WILL happen. In keeping with the "unsigned and just fine" attitude they have come to adopt over the last 2 or so years, You, Me, and Everyone We Know has once again elected to give away their new EP, So Young, So Insane, digitally for a limited time. "The days of 'needing' a label are gone for us," says guitarist Rico Vigil. "If and when we sign, we will look back on this knowing it was the smartest decision we ever made for this band."

You Me and Everyone We Know Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To make you feel a little better,
Like when a nice boy takes you dinner
Not just first base beneath your sweater.
But if it happens enough
Maybe I'll learn to trust
Having skin so tough
But my expanding state
Tends to gravitate
I'll never fit the pants of a singer
I lack the lungs of a winner
I am failure's dead ringer
I've got the marks of a sinner
You've got to pick yourself up by the bootstraps
Just ignore them when they laugh
Make it a point to now walk taller
Keep your chin up on the behalf
Of every beautiful rejection
With their own ugly reflection
To anyone who's ever never felt the same
Back to the couch where I'll binge on doritos
Where I'll grow so stagnant that I breed mosquitoes
I will saturate
My expanding state
I'll never fit the pants of a singer
I lack the lungs of a winner
I am failure's dead ringer
I've got the marks of a sinner
You've got to pick yourself up by the bootstraps
Just ignore them when they laugh
Make it a point to now walk taller
Keep your chin up on the behalf
Of every beautiful rejection
With their own ugly reflection
To anyone who's ever never felt the same
But still hey
Who are we to say we could ever be loved?
From god's own junkyard to heavens above
You've got to pick yourself up by the bootstraps
Just ignore them when they laugh
Make it a point to now walk taller
Keep your chin up on the behalf
Of every beautiful rejection
With their own ugly reflection
To anyone who's ever never felt the same
The lyrics of You Me and Everyone We Know's song Bootstraps speak about wanting to be more positive and uplifting, and making an effort to uplift someone else. The singer talks about wanting to make someone feel better, but they struggle to do so because of their own personal struggles. They mention that they don't have the talents of a successful singer or a winner, and feel like they embody failure and sin. Despite this, the lyrics encourage persevering through rejection and self-doubt, and picking yourself up by the bootstraps.
The chorus of the song repeats the advice to pick yourself up by the bootstraps and ignore those who laugh, to walk taller and keep your chin up. The lyrics acknowledge that rejection can be painful and lead to feelings of inadequacy, but encourage finding beauty in the midst of the pain. The song ends with a reflection on the innate worthiness of oneself, and the notion that even those considered "junkyard" material by some can still find love and acceptance.
