Young Zee Mr. Green Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I met YOU that night
You were so drunk
And I couldn’t say hi
But I took care of
You all the time
After a year we were
And I ask: do you wanna go out?
So there were you waiting for me
And I went wearing a red shirt
So many days are gone
And I (JUST) keep ON going
So many days are gone
And I (JUST) keep going HOME
in that show
When I kissed you
That blew my mind
So Let’s go for another
Time of our life, college, friends and our first job,
I remember like yesterday
These lyrics are a reflection on a past relationship and the nostalgia associated with it. The first verse describes the initial meeting between the singer and the person addressed as "YOU." The singer recalls meeting this person while they were intoxicated and feeling unable to approach them at the time. Despite that, the singer took care of them throughout that time. The mention of not being able to say hi suggests a missed connection or opportunity to initiate a conversation.
In the second paragraph, the lyrics fast forward to a year later, where the singer and "YOU" find themselves in the same class. The singer builds up the courage to ask if "YOU" would like to go out, and "YOU" agree. The detail of the singer wearing a red shirt serves as a small memory of that occasion, hinting at the significance it held for the singer.
The third paragraph shifts the focus to the passing of time. The singer notes that many days have gone by, but they continue to press forward. It may imply that despite the passage of time, their emotions and memories of this relationship are still present and carry them forward. The repetition of "keep ON going" and "keep going HOME" suggests a certain resilience and determination to keep moving forward, perhaps even towards a sense of nostalgia and a longing for their hometown.
Finally, the lyrics touch on a significant moment between the singer and "YOU" at a show where they kissed. The impact of that kiss is described as blowing the singer's mind, indicating that it was a powerful and memorable experience. The lyrics then mention college, friends, and their first job, highlighting the broad span of memories shared with this person. The singer reminisces about these experiences as if they occurred just yesterday, emphasizing their significance and the lasting impact they have had.
In summary, "Hometown" by Young Zee Mr. Green is a reflective song that reminisces about a past relationship and the memories associated with it. It explores the initial meeting, the progression of the relationship, the passage of time, and significant moments shared. The lyrics evoke a sense of nostalgia and emotional attachment to these memories, highlighting their importance in the singer's life.
