Yours Truly Lyrics

Did things not go to your plans and
We tried it out at friends
In its full disclosure
And here I go again
Why did I beg you to stay but
It's over now and I'll keep my composure
My composure
You don't owe me anything
You don't get to say that
You're miserable without me now
We were the flame, you burnt us out
I know I cross your mind
You hope it will slow down in time but
You'll have to live this down
Now I've called it sober
I took your pictures down
I threw your clothes away
It's over now I'll keep composure
So stay the fuck away
You don't owe me anything
You don't get to say that
You're miserable without me now
No chances and no taking back
And if you're wondering just know that
We were the flame, you burnt us out
And did you get it off your chest
Was it enough to help you break through
Never had the faith to invest
When you're always about you
And I hope you're feeling lonely
And I don't care if that sounds crazy
You know you made your bed so go lay in it
You don't owe me anything
You don't
You don't get to say that
You're miserable without me now
We were the flame, you burnt us out
We were the flame, you burnt us out
The song "Composure" by Yours Truly depicts a relationship that has come to an end. The first verse suggests that the couple had tried to make things work as friends, but it did not go as planned, and the singer ends up trying to keep their composure after the breakup. The second verse implies that the significant other said hurtful things about how they are better off without the singer in their life. As the song progresses, the singer begins to move on by taking down their ex's pictures and throwing away their clothes, saying that they will keep their composure and stay away from their ex. The chorus emphasizes that the ex does not owe the singer anything and that they were the ones who burnt out the flame in the relationship.
The bridge's lyrics describe how the significant other had difficulties expressing themselves and never invested in the relationship. The singer hopes that the ex is feeling lonely now and does not care if it sounds crazy. It is clear that they want their ex to feel some remorse and realizes that they made a mistake. The final chorus repeats the same line, "We were the flame, you burnt us out," reiterating that the breakup was their ex's doing and that they do not have the right to say that they owe the singer anything.

Here you go again
You are repeating the same mistake once again
Did things not go to your plans and
Did your plans not work out?
We tried it out at friends
We tested our relationship among our peers
In its full disclosure
In complete transparency
And here I go again
I am repeating the same mistake once again
Why did I beg you to stay but
Why did I implore you to remain?
It's over now and I'll keep my composure
Our relationship is over and I'll remain calm
My composure
I won't lose my cool
You don't owe me anything
You have no obligation towards me
You don't get to say that
You can't claim that
You're miserable without me now
You are unhappy without me
We were the flame, you burnt us out
We were the spark, you extinguished us
I know I cross your mind
I am aware I am on your mind
You hope it will slow down in time but
You anticipate that it will eventually fade away
You'll have to live this down
You will have to bear the burden of your actions
Now I've called it sober
Now that I am in my right mind
I took your pictures down
I removed your photographs
I threw your clothes away
I disposed of your garments
It's over now I'll keep composure
Our relationship is finished, but I will remain calm
So stay the fuck away
So don't come near me
No chances and no taking back
No second chances and no reconciling
And if you're wondering just know that
If you are inquiring, just be aware that
Did you get it off your chest
Did you confess your feelings?
Was it enough to help you break through
Did it provide the breakthrough you needed?
Never had the faith to invest
You never had the trust to commit
When you're always about you
When your focus is always on yourself
And I hope you're feeling lonely
And I wish for you to experience loneliness
And I don't care if that sounds crazy
And I don't mind if that appears insane
You know you made your bed so go lay in it
You are responsible for your actions; live with the consequences
