Z-RO was born Joseph Wayne McVey IV in Houston's South Park neighborhood on January 19, 1977.[5] At age six his mother died, and he was shuttled from household to household in search of stability, eventually settling in the Ridgemont area, a middle-class suburb in Missouri City in Southwest Houston.[5] When Z-Ro reached his late teens he was unemployed and resorted to drug dealing and hustling on the streets.[5] According to Z-Ro, listening to the music of 2Pac, Geto Boys, Street Military, K-Rino and Klondike Kat inspired him to work harder for his goal of leaving the streets.[5] Z-Ro discovered his talent of freestyle rapping and after going through a couple of recording studios to make a demo,[5] the CEO of a local label discovered and signed him.
Z-Ro released his critically acclaimed Rap-a-Lot debut titled The Life of Joseph W. McVey.[5][6] The record was a huge success and helped expand Z-Ro's and Bobby Craig's fan base beyond the South.[5] In 2005, Z-Ro released Let the Truth Be Told, which was well received.[5] Z-Ro's 2006 album I'm Still Livin' was released while he was imprisoned for drug possession, to positive reviews.[7][8] It was called "a great album... powerful" but "relentlessly bleak" by The Village Voice[7] and "one of the best rap albums to come out of Houston" by the Houston Chronicle.[9] In 2010 he released the album titled Heroin, which was followed by an album titled Meth in 2011 and then Angel Dust in 2012.
Z-Ro released his first EP under The Mo City Don titled Tripolar on August 25, 2013 via One Deep Ent.[2] Z-Ro then followed up with The Crown in June 2014.[10] In February 2015, Z-Ro released his first proper studio album in three years, titled Melting the Crown.
In 2016, Z-Ro released Drankin & Drivin in August[11] and Legendary in November under his label One Deep Entertainment.

Jigga, how real is that?
Uh, uh, uh, lights out niggas!
(Jigga)
What's my motherfuckin name? (Jigga)
And who I'm rollin with huh? (My niggas)
Niggas better get it right, bitches better get it right
Who? (Jigga)
What's my motherfuckin name? (Jigga)
And who I'm rollin with huh? (My niggas)
Uh-huh-uh, uh, uh, uh (yeah)
Niggas better get it right, bitches better get it right (yeah)
From the crap tables down in A.C.
Back on the block, Jay-Z motherfucker from the, the, the Roc
Went solo on that ass but it's still the same
Brooklyn be the place where I serve them thangs
See my niggas was strugglin', 'til they birds they came
And then we got to hustlin', murderin' thangs
I dipped in my stash, splurged on a chain
Now I'm Titanic, Iceberg's the name
Leave players on injured reserve, hurt the game
The best way to describe me in a word, insane
I dick down chicks all emerged in my fame
Jigga been dope since Slick Rick's first chain
The God, send you back to the earth from which you came
I'm bakin' soda, water, fire, merged with 'caine
Ladies don't know me said, "I heard he's vain"
Well guess what mami? I heard the same
You heard the name
(Jigga)
What's my motherfuckin name? (Jigga)
And who I'm rollin with huh? (My niggas)
Uh-huh-uh, uh, uh, uh
Niggas better get it right, bitches better get it right

Uh-huh-uh, uh, uh, uh
Niggas better get it right, bitches better get it right (yeah, uh)
I got a license to kill so I steer the gat
Roc-A-Fella, Ruff Ryders, niggas scared of that
Got a new motto this year, "Don't fuck with my ones"
Knock on your door, three in the mornin'
"It's just us and the guns!"
See I scramble with priests, hustle with nuns
I got the mind capacity of a young Butch Cassidy
Niggas get fly, let 'em defy gravity
Fo'-five rapidly lift your chest cavity
Streets won't let me chill
Always been a clumsy nigga, don't let me spill
Muh'fuckers want to wet me still, I remain y'all
Raw, the one, like five divided by four (uh)
Shit, this just the hate that's been provided by y'all
Reciprocated and multiplied by more

I don't give a fuck if I sold one or one million, but I think you should
'Cause if I only sold one, then out comes the hood
They all black in the club, the outcome ain't good
Them niggas act like wolves, how come? They could
'Cause we don't drop hits, we drop bombs and smash
'Til the wrists is lit up, the arm looks like glass
The necklace chipped up, the charm it flash
Could fuck up your eyes like the bombest hash
See the reason why chicks let me palm they ass
All I gotta do is let 'em call me Shawn, they glad
Let 'em sit up in they whip 'til I launch it back
Snap they neck, then shoot 'em to they aunts and back
The calmest cat, trust me when I palm this gat
Kill your mind, body and soul, push your conscience back
Monster's back, and Flex drop a bomb to that
And e'rybody sing-a-long to the track, c'mon
Uh-huh-uh, uh
(Jigga)
What's my motherfuckin name? (Jigga)
And who I'm rollin with huh? (My niggas)

The song "My Nigga" by Z-Ro features Jay-Z and is a tribute to their close friendship and partnership. The opening lines mention influential record labels Roc-A-Fella, Ruff Ryders, and executive producer Swizz Beatz, signaling that these icons of hip-hop served as the inspiration for this track. The chorus is a proud statement of Jay-Z's identity, as he asserts that his name is synonymous with his crew, represented by the term "my niggas." This refrain appears throughout the song, emphasizing the unity that Jay-Z feels when he is surrounded by his closest friends and allies.
The main verses of "My Nigga" deal with Jay-Z's life as an artist and a hustler. The lyrics depict his rise to success and fame, from hustling on the streets to making hit records and substantial financial gains. Jay-Z's pen game is on display as he rhymes effortlessly about his ability to move through different social circles, deal with difficult people, and maintain his aura of calm and confidence in the face of adversity. He references his weapons and his gangster persona, but also includes wordplay and clever references to classic hip-hop culture (like Slick Rick's first chain) to showcase his ability to balance commercial appeal with lyrical mastery.
Overall, "My Nigga" is an homage to Jay-Z's network of friends and collaborators who helped him achieve fame and success. It also showcases his ability to write memorable lyrics that connect with his audience and provide insight into his personal story.
