Omen
Zaum Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Godspeed to those among us
Thou shalt commence with speech
Ground troops will defend thee
Pillage all who dare to sleep
Thy fathers fate shall take flight
For his tongue is blasphemy
Gaze upward toward a hazed sky
The spear shall end his cree

Wise man speaks the end of his days
He ascends to sew the seed
Rise above all those who follow
The kings of eternity
Red shrine erected in place
Brings forth a celestial priest
Speak not but of the ancients
Black floods desecrate your seed

Chambers of the flame guard the secrets in the remains
Promised placed upon the man who seeketh retribution

Fragments inform portioned words ascend a funeral fire
Concealed a truth from an absent man of Zion

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Zaum's song "Omen" speak of a foreboding prophecy and the impending doom it brings. The first verse alludes to a group of soldiers or warriors, who have been commanded to defend someone or something with their speech, and to destroy anyone who tries to sleep or rest. The second line seems to suggest that this is a religious mission, as the soldiers are bidding each other "Godspeed". The reference to "thy father's fate" and "his tongue... blasphemy" implies that there may be some kind of heretical belief or practice involved.

The second verse starts with a wise man speaking of his impending death and his hope to leave a lasting legacy ("sew the seed"). The imagery of rising above those who follow, and the mention of "kings of eternity", suggests that this is a religious or spiritual ascent. However, the mention of a "red shrine" and "celestial priest" suggests that there are darker forces at work. The final lines of the verse speak of "black floods desecrating your seed", which could be a metaphor for the destruction or corruption of something pure.

Taken as a whole, the lyrics paint a picture of a world on the brink of destruction, where religion and war are intertwined, and where even the wise and powerful are unable to prevent disaster. The song seems to suggest that this is not a recent development, but rather the result of centuries of secrets and lies.
