Postcard
Zed Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You′ve got a lot of nerve coming around here acting like
You're someone else
Cos no two-bit player′s gonna have it over me
So when you're out playing games and you get caught don't
Expect my help
Cos when the rules get dirty they can be a bit hard to
Read
You′ve got love for everything that I don′t want
But you mean a lot more to me

You'd better send me a postcard
And tell me what it′s like in the real world
Learning your lessons
You had a lot of fun but you'll be back soon

Now you never thought the day would come you were left
All by yourself
But turn a couple more pages and the ending′s there to see
So when the roof's caving in and you get caught don′t
Expect my help
Because all the money in the world won't buy you what you need
You told me all about the things that you couldn't believe

And tied them up hoping that they wouldn′t breathe
There′s food on the table but it's going cold
You lost your appetite for life as you were getting old
The questions that you had you kept them to yourself
And went about your life to increase your wealth

The years of prediction all come down to this
You can′t help wondering what it is that you missed...

Overall Meaning

In Zed's song "Postcard", the lyrics depict a sense of betrayal and disappointment towards someone. The song talks about someone who has come around, trying to act like someone they are not, and not expecting any consequences for their actions since they think they can get away with it. The singer, however, is not willing to aid them in their games or help them when they encounter problems. They believe that following the rules could be difficult, especially when others start to play dirty.

The chorus mainly talks about how the person needs to learn their lessons as they have been enjoying themselves for far too long, but sooner or later, they will have to face the reality of what they have done. The singer also mentions that the person should send him a postcard and tell him all about their experiences in the "real world". He sarcastically tells them to "enjoy learning their lessons".

Towards the end of the song, the singer highlights how the person who pretended to be someone they are not has lost themselves along the way. They have become obsessed with materialistic things, and although they have wealth, it cannot buy them everything they need. The song concludes by pointing out how the person kept secrets and lost themselves along the way, and as time passed, they cannot help but wonder what it is that they missed.
