In Zella Day's song Sweet Ophelia, she addresses a young girl who is growing up too fast and getting wrapped up in a boy who may not have her best interests at heart. The opening lyrics are a warning to the girl that she is too young and innocent to understand the complexities of love and relationships. The imagery of cherry pie and gold curls paints a picture of a sweet and innocent girl, but the metaphor of a grapevine encircling her suggests that she may be getting tangled up in something that will be hard to escape from.
The chorus repeats the phrase "sweet Ophelia" and describes the consequences of young blood escaping and vows breaking. The repeated line of "up, up away" reinforces the idea of something lifting off and escaping, suggesting that the girl may be getting carried away by her emotions and desires. The bridge talks about the boy she is involved with, who turns her on to new things and makes promises that she is hooked on. The use of the phrase "right songs" may suggest that he is controlling what she listens to and perhaps even her thoughts and actions.
Overall, the song is a cautionary tale about the dangers of getting swept up in love and relationships at a young age, especially when you may not fully understand what you are getting into. The metaphor of a grapevine and the repeated line of "up, up away" suggest that once you get entangled in something, it can be hard to extract yourself from it and move on.

@sasaazn
I like the meaning of this song, it's inspired by Ophelia, a character in Shakespeare ' s play called Hamlet, a tragedy. it's kinda deeper than it seems, which I really like. It's about a young innocent girl, potentially in love with Hamlet, a prince who was confessing his "love" to her, anf who then acts crazy and accidentally killed her father, which made Ophelia crazy too... She ends up dying in a river. The flowers are a reference to a part where she became crazy herself and gives some flowers... it's the loss of innocence leading to an tragic death, while she could've been a free young and pure girl...
@modernminded5466
+sasaazn - Are you implying that the average person reading this don't know Hamlet?
@sasaazn
+ModernMinded no... maybe we've all heard of Hamlet, but surely not everyone actually read it... I only meant what I wrote ahah I didn't want to imply anything else...
@anonymous-fz9yu
sasaazn I played Ophelia in Hamlet for school and this song helped me understand Hamlet a little more tbh😂

she's so underrated,she deserves so much more fame and success.I love her music and her style.
@lanadelbae3280
Can we stop comparing her to every other female artist! She's not a fake Lana or a fake anything. She's just herself, why can't people grasp that.
@leonardoflores2924
LanaDelBae best comment I have ever read. I wonder why people are always comparing people, this is boring and embarrassing. Congrats to you
@cheaptrick1989
Leonardo Flores That's like asking why people compete lol. If I wanted a friend to give Ms. Day a listen, I'd try to get him/her interested by making some comparisons, because what easier way is there of quickly intimating any given artist's/band's sound/style? But I agree, that it is unfortunate when people strive to pigeon hole every new artist as the next version of "band/artist x." I liked wolf alice's response to being told they were a lot like hole, liz phair, and other such musicians of the 90's, which was that they weren't born yet/old enough to be listening to music back then, so they really aren't trying to recreate anyone's sound.
