Swing
Zero 7 feat. Binki Shapiro Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When did you become so easy to change?
Can't like who I want
No, that's not true
I do know
Just can't figure out how to pin down
There will be no unguarded kisses,
They say I'm unsound
But what do they know?
They can't figure out how to get down
Soon enough I won't care
Stay in my arms, if you dare
You can't romanticize
They are crazy
Will only let you down
Try to figure out, how to keep you down
They're all alone
I will keep you down
The song "Swing" by Zero 7 feat. Binki Shapiro is a reflection on the changing nature of a romantic relationship. The lyrics suggest that the singer thought that their partner would always remain the same, but they have become easy to change. The singer also notes that they cannot like who they want, suggesting that there may be some societal or external constraints on their relationship. However, the singer knows that they cannot pin down their emotions or the relationship in a neat and tidy way.
The lyrics also suggest that there may have been some infidelity or trust issues in the relationship. The singer notes that there will be "no unguarded kisses" and that they need to let go of their partner's hand when others are around. There is a sense of uncertainty and doubt throughout the song, with the singer questioning if they are "unsound" and if their partner really wants to stay with them. However, they also assert that they will keep their partner down, perhaps indicating a possessive or controlling aspect to the relationship.
Overall, "Swing" is a moody and introspective song about the complexities of romantic relationships and the ever-changing nature of emotions and human connections.

I heard this song at work one day a couple of years ago and I wrote down the lyrics and found the song that day and have loved it ever since. This live performance is better than the album version, to me. The ad-libs and harmonies brought more magic to the song.

KCRW really had a major influence on the music I listen to today. Zero 7 on MBE... could not get better than this.

OMFG!!! I remember seeing this performed live in Montreal, and I cried like a baby. The recording never quite did it for me again, but this video brought me back to that moment, and damn those tears came. Zero 7 is divine
