Fade Out

Did you hurt yourself on the way down?
Did your blood run cold?
Did you sell your soul?
Hey now, did you fade out?
Did you hurt yourself on the way down?
Did your blood run cold?
Lookin' for someone to help as you reachin' your hands to the sky, standin' in line
Damaged as I am, you wouldn't be beggin' to swing as you're lookin' the man in the eye
I don't got plans yet to die, demandin' what's mine
Maskin' the bag through the back door
I don't got nobody to turn to, except who I am as I sigh, ran through my mind
Once again I can't pretend to be anything except the enemy of me
I don't need to spend my energy on anything except the end and when and where it leads
What the fuck's the point in temptin' me?
That just gives you one percentage less to breathe
Fuck you said to me? I ain't gonna end up like you motherfuckers standing next to me
Hey now, did you fade out?
Did you hurt yourself on the way down?
Did your blood run cold?
Did you sell your soul?
Hey now, did you fade out?
Did you hurt yourself on the way down?
Did your blood run cold?
Did you sell your soul?
I prayed you would survive, but it's time for you to die
Can't keep you alive, I can't keep choosing sides
You try to lose your race, you aim to save your soul
I'm lookin' through the sights, ain't never been to hell before
But I can show you how it feels to lose your life
Though you've never lived, no, we never right our wrongs
And I can't give you to realize
What happened to the person that you used to be?
I wish they were here
For all the reasons that I couldn't let you breathe
Takes away my fear
What happened to the person that you used to be?
I wish they were here
Oh-oh-oh, I wish they were here
Hey now, did you fade out?
Did you hurt yourself on the way down?
Did your blood run cold?
Did you sell your soul?
Hey now, did you fade out?
Did you hurt yourself on the way down?
Did your blood run cold?
Did you sell your soul?
The lyrics of Zero 9:36's song "Fade Out" explore themes of self-destruction, inner turmoil, and the consequences of selling one's soul. The song opens with the questioning of whether the person in question has "faded out," suggesting a potential loss of identity or self-destructive tendencies. The lyrics further inquire about whether they have hurt themselves on their downward spiral and if they have sold their soul, implying a sense of moral compromise or desperation.
The chorus repeats these questions, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. The verses delve deeper into the complexity of the individual's struggle, mentioning their search for assistance while simultaneously acknowledging their own damaged state. The lyrics also touch upon a feeling of isolation, not having anyone to turn to except oneself. The song expresses a refusal to follow in the footsteps of others who have ended up in a similar predicament.
The bridge of the song takes a darker turn, as the singer admits to praying for the person's survival but also acknowledges the need for them to die. The lyrics convey a sense of being caught between choosing sides and struggling with the idea of saving one's soul. The singer offers a glimpse into the possibility of experiencing the pain of losing one's life and the inability to right past wrongs.
In the final section of the song, the lyrics return to questioning the person's disappearance and longing for their former self. The singer expresses a wish for their presence and reflects on the fear that arises from their absence.
Overall, "Fade Out" is a lyrically introspective song that delves into the internal struggles, self-destruction, and moral compromise in the face of personal demons.
