New Madonna
Zeromancer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I see you out on an empty beach
I see you walking a one way street
It's the same as always
A star maybe you are
A star maybe you are
A new Madonna
In a way I can hear myself say
What is it worth
I say we meet on the last place on earth
It's insane as always
Maybe you are
A star maybe you are
A new Madonna
Is this the only way
You make it like a new Madonna
The song "New Madonna" by Zeromancer is a reflection on the rise of celebrity culture and the allure of fame. The lyrics are addressed to a person who is out on the dance floor, shaking around and drawing attention to themselves. The singer also sees this person walking down a one-way street and on an empty beach, suggesting that they are always seeking the spotlight. Despite this, the singer acknowledges that this person may indeed be a star, maybe even a new Madonna.
The chorus repeats the idea that this person could be a star or a new Madonna. Madonna is an icon of pop culture who has reinvented herself multiple times over the course of her career. The suggestion here is that this person is similarly trying to stand out and be noticed, trying to create a persona that will capture people's attention.
The second verse sees the singer reflecting on the worth of this pursuit of fame. The idea of meeting on the last place on earth suggests a certain nihilistic attitude, as if everything else in life is meaningless compared to the search for stardom. The repetition of the phrase "It's insane as always" in both verses further emphasizes the idea that this preoccupation with fame is a kind of madness.
Overall, "New Madonna" is a commentary on the attention-seeking behavior that is often associated with celebrity culture. It suggests that the pursuit of fame can be all-consuming and ultimately meaningless, yet there is still a fascination with those who manage to achieve it.

Famous Last Words is an awesome album. I would drive anywhere to see them perform live if they play in America.
@LittleLuckyLink
Such a beautiful song- I stumbled across this about seven years ago, and the melody alone invoked a visceral sense of nostalgia reaching decades further back, beyond my own comprehension- as if this very feeling was there all along.. . Absolutely breathtaking.

I can't get enough of this song! It's like if you took a little New Order, a little of The Bravery, and a little Nine Inch Nails and mashed it all together: New Madonna by Zeromancer. Love it.

I think this song is the best one ever came from Zeromancer. I wonder why it was only relized as a bonus track on Zzyzx. It's weird. This song is amazing, itøs love itself said with the words of music. Damn.

This one and Hollywood pretty much own my soul, however, New Madonna is something I'll put on and play for hours over and over and over. There's just something so fundamentally core they tapped into with it.
@Damnied
The kind of music I'd like to listen in a destroyed world, in an empty city, in a lonely morning.

Zeromancer is the underground Muse. They should be so much more popular.
