Tumblin' Down
Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here comes the eagle
Here comes the bear
And they're fighting to control
The lion dominion

But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down

Here comes synthetic food
And their big time money
And they want to control
Our body and soul

But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down

Here comes the maker
To crush the oppressor
Well I bet you didn't know
It was mind over matter

But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down

Here comes the eagle
Here comes the bear
And they're fighting to control
The lion dominion

But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down (Jah, Jah know)
But the load gonna come tumblin' down (Jah, Jah know)
But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down

But the load gonna come tumblin' down
But the load gonna come tumblin' down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers's song Tumblin' Down depict a situation where various powerful entities are fighting to control the "lion dominion." The eagle and the bear symbolize two strong opposing forces that are engaged in a fierce battle over control. This control could be of a particular territory, but in this context, it could be a metaphor for power and influence. The synthetic food and big-time money symbolize capitalism and its control over the masses, specifically their bodies and souls. However, the singer suggests that the "load gonna come tumblin' down" implying that there will be a change that would destabilize the order currently in place. The maker will come to crush the oppressor, and this change requires the power of the mind rather than physical strength.

Bought this CD when it came out as I heard, and immediately fell in love with, this song as well as β€˜Tomorrow People.’ I have not played it in awhile but now having seen the film last night about Ziggy’s father, Bob Marley, I have gotten back into both this CD and the music of Bob! Important musical family that must not be forgotten! Love it all!

I love Ziggy Marley and Melody Makers! They had some amazing dance tracks like this really upbeat and catchy. I wish they were still writing and making this type of music! No need to be like his dad they have their own gift too.
