a) Zoot was a four piece power pop/hard rock band formed in Adelaide, South Australia in 1965. As a group, they relocated to Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and performed in several Australian cities under a variety of names. In 1967 they fully adopted the name Zoot. Amongst the more notable members of Zoot were founder Beeb Birtles, Darryl Cotton, and Rick Springfield. In mid-1968, Zoot relocated to Melbourne, where their management promoted them under the slogan "Think Pink – Think Zoot" – all band members wore pink costumes; Darryl Cotton's car was repainted pink; his pet dog, Monty, had its fur dyed pink; and their main performing venue, Birties Disco, was pink-themed throughout. Zoot were voted Top Australian Group in teen pop Go-Set magazine's reader poll published in June 1969. Unfortunately they were subject to homophobic ridicule for their use of pink outfits, and on tour in Brisbane, Cotton was injured in an assault by street toughs.
Early in 1970 Zoot finally discarded their pink outfits and attempted to shift their image and music towards heavier rock from the earlier teeny-bopper pop In December that year, they released their most successful single, "Eleanor Rigby", which was a hard rock cover version of The Beatles' ballad and by March 1971 it had peaked in the Aussie top five. Go-Set magazine listed Zoot's 'Eleanor Rigby' in it's Top Records for the Year of 1971 at No. 12. In May 1971 despite the top 30 charting of their next single, "Freak", the group disbanded. Springfield departed for the US in 1972, while Cotton & Birtles issued a cover version of the Mann-Weil track, "Feelings", on Sparmac Records under the name Frieze, due to sponsorship by Frieze Brothers (a regional clothing brand).
Rick Springfield later formed The Ferretts and had a number one hit in Australia circa 1977 with 'Don’t Fall In Love’. Springfield eventually achieved international fame as a solo artist, songwriter and actor, but fondly refers to Zoot as the best band he was ever in. Beeb Birtles would go on to further success with Mississippi, and later founded the Little River Band in 1975. late Zoot lead vocalist Darryl Cotton had an Aussie solo top 10 hit in 1980 with ‘Same Old Girl’. Cotton passed away in the summer of 2012 after a bout with liver cancer.
b) A post rock band from Buenos Aires, Argentina. They released their first album in 2013, Después el agua.

Ooh
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Forever is ending
You see a tear
Love isn't bending
And I know that I am feeling better
Mary wants to love me
So I'll let her
Chains and the irons
Have fallen off of me
I am much much lighter
Everyone can see
And I know that
I am feeling better
Suzie wants to love me
So I'll let her
I'm flying, I'm flying
Look at me
I'm flying, I'm flying
Higher than ever before
Ain't lyin'
No cryin'
Look at me
I'm flying
I'm flying
Higher than ever before
Singing so loudly
I'm drowning out the birds
Singing nothing special
Just any happy words
And I know that, I am feeling better
Sally wants to love me
So I'll let her
I'm flying, I'm flying
Look at me
I'm flying, I'm flying
Higher than ever before
Ain't lyin'
No cryin'
Look at me
I'm flying
I'm flying
Higher than ever before
I'm singing,
I'm gliding, I'm soaring
I'm riding, I'm sweeping
I'm flying high
I'm flying
And I know that I am feeling better
Mary wants to love me
So I'll let her
I'm flying, I'm flying
Look at me
I'm flying, I'm flying
Higher than ever before
Ain't lyin'
No cryin'
Look at me
I'm flying
I'm flying
Higher than ever before
I'm flying, I'm flying
Look at me
I'm flying, I'm flying
Higher than ever before
Ain't lyin'
No cryin'
Look at me
I'm flying
I'm flying
Higher than ever before
I'm flying, I'm flying
Look at me
I'm flying, I'm flying
Higher than ever before
The lyrics of "Flying" by Zoot (originally written by Rick Springfield) convey a sense of freedom, empowerment, and happiness. The song appears to be about someone who has recently overcome a difficult period in their life and is now experiencing newfound joy and excitement. The singer seems to have a lot of confidence and self-assuredness, as they sing about their ability to fly higher than ever before.
The first verse paints a picture of a person who has gone through a breakup or fallen out of love. They are experiencing sadness but are slowly starting to feel better. Mary is mentioned as someone who wants to love the singer and is probably a new love interest or someone who has come back into their life, making them feel happier. The second verse mentions the chains and irons falling off of the singer, indicating that they might have been held back by something or someone in the past. They feel lighter and free now, evident to everyone around them. Suzie is mentioned as another potential love interest, and the singer seems open to the idea of loving again.
The chorus is repeated multiple times, with the phrase "I'm flying" serving as a kind of mantra for the singer. They sing about rising above their problems, feeling exhilarated and unburdened. The lines "no cryin'" and "nothin' special" reinforce the idea that they have moved on from their previous difficulties and are enjoying simple, happy moments. The bridge talks about soaring and gliding, using beautiful imagery to emphasize the feeling of freedom and liberation.
Taken together, "Flying" is a song about finding joy and happiness after a tough time in life. It is about overcoming obstacles and feeling empowered to take flight and enjoy a new lease on life.

This would have been a great song for the band Jellyfish to have covered back in the 90s...
@floraline7153
Yes! I just discovered Zoot today and I am blown away at home much Sturmer sounds like Cotton. I also wonder if Jellyfish knew of Zoot.
@sunshineoverpass5020
@@floraline7153 If I had to guess, I'd say they probably did know about Zoot. They always seemed to have a thorough knowledge of 60s and 70s rock and pop. They did covers of The Move, Argent, Paul McCartney and so many more. I'd be surprised if they didn't know this song.
