Zyklon is, according to Samoth, a play on the word "cyclone" and no relation to the nerve agent Zyklon B used by the Nazis. Despite Samoth being in a previous project called Zyklon-B along with Emperor member, Ihsahn, among others, the two bands are separate bands and played a different style of Metal.
All of the band's lyrics are written by ex-Emperor drummer Faust . Most of the lyrics revolve around themes like anti-religion, misanthropy, and philosophy.
Zyklon's debut album, entitled World ov Worms, was quite similar to that of Destructhor's band Myrkskog's album Deathmachine. The album is made up of extremely fast riffing and blast beats aided by the vocals of Daemon (of Limbonic Art). However, after this release, Zyklon changed. Myrkskog drummer (and later Emperor live bassist) Secthdamon joined and handled vocals and bass.
Zyklon's second album, Aeon, exposed the band to more media attention. The production is much clearer and music videos were made for two tracks, Core Solution and Psyklon Aeon.
The band's third effort, Disintegrate, was released on May 15, 2006 to great critical acclaim. It was recorded in November - December 2005 at the "Akkerhaugen Lydstudio", in Norway.
Samoth finally announced the split-up of the band on January 7, 2010.

In Hindsight
Zyklon Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Consolidates all my fears
Ignoring the real issue
Stop bothering about pity human scar tissue
Diminish our earthly waste
Finished in haste
Earth turned into a cold-blooded corporation
What about the future generations?
To surrender and realise
That the consequences will be tough
And at the end our demise
What is it with our digital existence?
Why do we cling with such persistence?
Expoloring alternative ways of living
A greater gift our world we are fiving
We see in hindsight
That the future is not bright
Let the green militia reign
Our most important refrain
The opening lines of Zyklon's song "In Hindsight" speak to the idea that humans have been de-evolving over thousands of years, resulting in a consolidation of fear that has caused us to ignore the real issues facing our society. Rather than addressing the root causes of our problems, the song suggests that humans are more concerned with their own individual "scar tissue" and that we are wasting our precious resources on earthly pursuits that will only end in our demise. It seems the song also comments on capitalist structures of today and how human actions forge corporations that are run without a moral spine. The song asks the question, "What about future generations?" begging for thoughts beyond their own finite lives.
The chorus of the song urges the listener to be brave enough to recognize that the consequences of our actions will be tough, and that we must surrender to the reality of the situation. The song suggests that humans are clinging to their digital existence with persistence, even though it may not be conducive to long-term survival. The song calls for exploring alternative ways of living that prioritize the environment and sustainability so that we can create a better future. "Let the green militia reign" becomes a refrain, emphasizing the importance of being stewards of the earth and protecting it for future generations.
